Jennifer Aniston has shared rare insights about her ex-husband Brad Pitt while reminiscing about one of his most iconic TV appearances on Friends. This conversation unfolded during Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, which was released on June 3, featuring Aniston in discussion with her former Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow.

The two actresses looked back at the numerous celebrity guest appearances that graced the beloved NBC sitcom over its run. Among the most memorable was Brad Pitt’s Thanksgiving episode, which aired in 2001.

During their chat, Kudrow mentioned Pitt’s cameo, stating, “Those were great, the Thanksgiving episodes. When Brad was on, that was hilarious.”

Aniston responded fondly, recalling the episode and the array of big-name stars who made guest appearances on the show. She remarked, “I know. How funny. The movie stars that came on Friends. Brad, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts. Isabella Rossellini. We had so many — Sean Penn. They were always nervous. Remember? I always found it fascinating how nervous they were.”

Kudrow concurred, noting that many guest stars felt uneasy stepping into the realm of a sitcom, particularly one as popular as Friends. She explained that actors from film often grappled with the tone of television comedy and were uncertain about how to adapt their performances.

She said, “Well, because what’s the tone? It’s not theater; it’s for TV. It’s not a movie. What the hell is this? And it’s a good question. And I remember someone asked one time. I didn’t know how to explain it, so I said, ‘Oh, just talk louder. Same intention, just —,’”

Aniston agreed with her co-star’s straightforward explanation, adding, “Just louder!”

Brad Pitt made his guest appearance on Friends in 2001 during the Thanksgiving episode, portraying Will Colbert, a former high school classmate of Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer. The character was involved in a storyline where Will had unresolved issues with Ross and Rachel, played by Aniston.

At the time the episode aired, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were married in real life. The couple tied the knot in 2000 and later separated in 2005. Their relationship remains one of Hollywood’s most discussed marriages, particularly in connection with Pitt’s brief yet memorable appearance on the show.

The Friends cameo is still regarded as one of the most famous guest appearances in the series’ history. The sitcom frequently featured high-profile stars throughout its run, including Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, and Sean Penn, many of whom were close friends or colleagues of the main cast.

Aniston’s reflections were casual and nostalgic, focusing more on the experience of working on the show rather than her personal life. The discussion underscored how Friends became a unique platform where major film stars occasionally ventured into television comedy roles, often finding the experience more challenging than anticipated.

The episode remains a standout moment for fans of the series, both for its humor and for the real-life connection between Aniston and Pitt during that time.
