James Gunn Teases ‘Man of Tomorrow’ With Stunning Fortress of Solitude Image
James Gunn continues to build excitement for the upcoming sequel. The DC Studios co-CEO shared a captivating behind-the-scenes image on X this weekend, captioned simply “Inside the Fortress,” featuring David Corenswet’s Superman standing at the entrance of the iconic Fortress of Solitude.
The post quickly garnered nearly 300,000 views, indicating a strong fan interest in all things related to ‘Man of Tomorrow.’
‘Superman’ received generally positive reviews following its summer release, achieving an 83% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience rating, while grossing $616.8 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing superhero film of last year. This success has provided Gunn and DC Studios with the momentum needed to accelerate the development of a sequel, and the excitement has only continued to grow.
Principal photography for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is currently in full swing, with David Corenswet recently spotted filming in Atlanta, Georgia, harnessed in his Superman suit, while Gunn was also present on set. The sequel will feature Nicholas Hoult returning as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Adria Arjona joining the cast as Maxima, with the villain Brainiac portrayed by German actor Lars Eidinger.
Teaser art has confirmed that Lex Luthor will wear his classic Warsuit from the comics, promising to be one of the visually striking elements of the sequel. Brainiac, one of Superman’s most formidable adversaries, first appeared in Action Comics in 1958 and is known for traveling the universe, shrinking and bottling cities to absorb their knowledge, including the Kryptonian capital of Kandor.
The storyline of ‘Man of Tomorrow’ takes place 30 years after Superman’s arrival on Earth, beginning with the Man of Steel facing his first defeat and retreating to the Fortress of Solitude, unaware that one of Luthor’s allies is following him. Gunn has also confirmed a significant time jump in the DCU timeline between ‘Superman’ and the sequel, although the precise details of that gap have only recently been clarified.

Corenswet’s Superman will make an appearance before ‘Man of Tomorrow’ releases, confirmed to show up in ‘Supergirl’, which opens on June 26. However, his role is expected to be limited as the story focuses on Kara Zor-El. For fans eager for more of Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel, this cameo will have to suffice until ‘Man of Tomorrow’ hits theaters on July 9, 2027. If today’s Fortress post is any indication, Gunn knows how to keep the conversation alive in the meantime.
