Milly Alcock has been making a quietly commanding impression on the ‘Supergirl’ press circuit, with photos showcasing the poise the Australian actress brings to the promotional run.

Dressed in a sleek all-black ensemble paired with sunglasses and an air of understated confidence, she presents a stark contrast to the bubbly, sunlit heroines of previous superhero films. This difference is entirely intentional.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, this film marks the second entry in the new DCU and the first ‘Supergirl’ feature since 1984. It directly adapts the acclaimed comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, following Kara Zor-El as she teams up with a young girl seeking revenge for her father’s death, embarking on a heavy-metal cosmic journey alongside Lobo, portrayed by Jason Momoa.

Alcock describes her interpretation of Kara as an unapologetic mess who is reluctant to embrace the role of a hero. She contrasts Kara with Superman, noting that while Clark dons a mask in everyday life, Kara refuses to conform.

Her audition, which took place before James Gunn, Peter Safran, screenwriter Ana Nogueira, and DC executive Chantal Nong, was a defining moment. Producer Safran recalled that everyone was moved to tears, describing Alcock’s performance as filled with emotion and stating that the group unanimously agreed it was perfect.

Director Craig Gillespie has praised Alcock’s physical dedication to the role, revealing that she trained with a personal trainer every morning at 5:30 AM for four and a half months to prepare for the fight scenes. He noted that she successfully executed one-minute sequences of spinning and fighting with eight stunt performers using ratchets.

Ahead of the premiere, Alcock has also spoken openly about the online hostility she has faced during the promotional campaign, expressing her excitement about young women seeing themselves in her character when the film hits theaters.

The cast surrounding Alcock includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Set for a wide theatrical release on June 26, the film arrives nearly a year after the new Superman launched the DCU’s cinematic chapter. With a press circuit already sparking significant cultural conversations, ‘Supergirl’ is poised to be one of the summer’s most discussed releases, regardless of audience opinions.
