‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 Release Date and Full Episode List Revealed
‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 is set to make its highly anticipated return, with Marvel Studios announcing the exact release schedule for fans eager to catch every new episode. Following the massive success of the first season in 2024, the animated series will introduce a fresh storyline, new challenges, and the emergence of one of the X-Men’s most formidable foes: Apocalypse.
Marvel Entertainment shared the complete release schedule for Season 2 on social media, confirming that new episodes will be available on Disney+. The season will kick off with a three-episode premiere on July 1, providing fans with an early glimpse into the next chapter following the dramatic cliffhanger of Season 1.
The initial three episodes are titled “Days of Past Future,” “A Force to be Reckoned With,” and “Rise of Apocalypse — Part I.” Episode four, “Rise of Apocalypse — Part II,” will follow on July 7. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly, culminating in the finale, “Survival of the Fittest,” on August 12.
The complete schedule features nine episodes, with titles hinting at significant comic book narratives and character developments. Some episode names seem to directly reference classic X-Men lore. For instance, “Days of Past Future” appears to be a modern take on the iconic “Days of Future Past” storyline, while “Strange Land, Savage Heart” likely alludes to the Savage Land tales from the original X-Men animated series.
The new season will primarily focus on Apocalypse, who will act as the main antagonist. Trailers and early footage suggest that the X-Men will confront the powerful mutant across various time periods. Characters like Professor X, Magneto, Rogue, Beast, and Nightcrawler will encounter Apocalypse in ancient Egypt, where he is known as En Sabah Nur, the first mutant.
Meanwhile, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, and Morph will face Apocalypse in a future where he has established himself as a dominant ruler. The season will also introduce additional characters, including Polaris, Magneto’s daughter, and an adult version of Cable.
The episode titles have already ignited numerous fan theories. “A Force to be Reckoned With” has led some fans to speculate that the storyline could involve X-Force, the mutant team associated with Cable. “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs” seems to hint at a Wolverine-centric episode, while “Danger.exe” likely points to Danger, the living embodiment of the X-Men’s Danger Room from the comics.
One of the most intriguing titles is “The Dead Man’s Hand,” which has fans speculating about a potential return for Gambit. His death was one of the most impactful moments of Season 1, but in the X-Men universe, death is seldom permanent.
Initial reactions indicate that the second season is poised to build on the success of its predecessor. Polygon, which previewed the first four episodes, reported that the new season is shaping up to be even stronger than anticipated.
With an expanded cast, time-travel narratives, and the introduction of Apocalypse, ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 is set to broaden the universe of the beloved animated series. The new episodes will begin streaming on Disney+ starting July 1.
