Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to embark on a cosmic journey in a new animated film. The duo is collaborating for Illumination’s upcoming project, ‘Not Alone’, a romantic comedy that intertwines love, rockets, and three unexpected alien visitors.

Initial details about the film were unveiled during the Annecy Animation Festival, where Illumination introduced the characters that Chalamet and Gomez will portray.

‘Not Alone’ marks Chalamet’s first foray into animation. He will lend his voice to Joe, a reserved rocket mechanic who enjoys a quiet life away from the hustle and bustle. Selena Gomez will voice Fran, a gifted astro-botanist working on a groundbreaking initiative: the creation of the world’s first plant-powered rocket.

The plot kicks off as Joe and Fran unite to prepare for the launch of Fran’s innovative rocket. Sparks fly between them, but navigating romance proves to be a challenge.

The official synopsis highlights their relationship as one filled with awkward encounters before their lives take an unexpected turn. “When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance,” the synopsis reveals.

Their lives become even more complicated when three small aliens arrive on Earth seeking refuge. The aliens, named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, find their way to Joe’s home while evading a determined yet clumsy officer named Zandro.

The aliens believe that Fran’s special rocket could be their ticket back home, thrusting Joe and Fran into an adventure far beyond what they anticipated.

The alien trio will be voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou. Brett Goldstein will portray Officer Zandro, with Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris also joining the supporting cast.

Illumination has assembled a talented team for this project. ‘Not Alone’ will be co-directed by Eric Guillon, known for his work on ‘Despicable Me 3’, along with Claire Dodgson, who served as an editor on ‘The Lorax’ and ‘Minions’, and Jonathan Del Val, who co-directed ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ and ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’.

Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld as executive producers, ‘Not Alone’ is set to hit theaters on April 16, 2027. This film continues Illumination’s commitment to original animated stories while maintaining its reputation for major franchises like ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’.

The announcement follows Illumination’s latest release, ‘Minions & Monsters’, which premiered at Annecy to positive reviews. The studio is now looking forward to ‘Not Alone’, a film that blends a classic romantic comedy setup with a family-friendly alien adventure.

With Chalamet making his animation debut and Gomez taking on a leading voice role, this movie is already generating buzz as one of Illumination’s highly anticipated releases.
