Fresh images from ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping‘ are fueling excitement among fans, showcasing Kieran Culkin and Jesse Plemons in pivotal supporting roles.

Lionsgate has unveiled the new visuals, featuring Culkin as Caesar Flickerman and Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee. These characters, originally portrayed by iconic actors, are already sparking intense reactions online.

Culkin takes on the role famously played by Stanley Tucci, embodying Caesar Flickerman, the slick and charismatic host of the Hunger Games’ televised broadcasts. This character serves as Panem’s most prominent propaganda tool, skillfully using charm and wit to present the horror of the Games as entertainment.

This role requires an actor who can make cruelty seem appealing, and Culkin, fresh off his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance in ‘Succession,’ brings the necessary coiled, unsettling energy to the character.

In this film, Plutarch Heavensbee is based in District 12, capturing the reaping of the Tributes. Plemons assumes the role previously held by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who portrayed Plutarch as the Head Gamemaker and rebellion leader in ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mockingjay.’ His casting adds emotional depth, as Hoffman’s portrayal in the later films carries significant weight that even casual fans will recognize.

The story of ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ unfolds in Panem on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, set 24 years before the events of the original ‘Hunger Games.’ This timeline allows for exploration of Plutarch and Caesar at earlier, formative stages of their careers, providing insight into who these characters were before their first appearances.

The ensemble cast for this installment is impressive. Joseph Zada stars as the young Haymitch Abernathy, with Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, and Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan. The caliber of talent involved indicates how seriously Lionsgate and the creative team are approaching this chapter of the expanded universe.

Haymitch is depicted as one of four tributes from District 12, the most impoverished district, who leads a rebellion against Gamemakers during the Games. This central narrative serves as the emotional core around which all surrounding characters, including Caesar’s media manipulation and Plutarch’s scheming, will revolve.

‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ is directed by Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every franchise installment since ‘Catching Fire,’ based on a screenplay by Billy Ray. The film is set to release on November 20, 2026. With ongoing ensemble reveals and consistently enthusiastic fan responses, Panem’s return to the big screen is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated events.
