Prime Video has officially revealed the release date for its highly anticipated Muhammad Ali limited series The Greatest.

During the Essence Festival of Culture, it was announced that the series will premiere on Wednesday, November 4. This exciting news was shared by creator, showrunner, and executive producer Ben Watkins, alongside cast members Jaalen Best, Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham, and Michael Ealy.

In addition to the release date, Prime Video also released a first-look teaser for the series, providing viewers with an early glimpse of the project.

The Greatest features Jaalen Best in the role of Muhammad Ali and is described as an intimate exploration of the life of the iconic boxer, humanitarian, and cultural figure. The series will highlight significant moments from Ali’s life and career, both in and out of the boxing ring, aiming to showcase not only his athletic accomplishments but also his impact as a public figure and activist.

This series is particularly significant as it has been authorized by Ali’s estate. Executive producer Lonnie Ali, Muhammad Ali’s widow, is involved in the project, making it the first officially sanctioned scripted series about his life. This collaboration grants the production access to personal insights and materials related to Ali’s legacy.

The show will consist of eight episodes and is being developed by a diverse group of production companies, including Ben Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment (a Universal Music Group partner), and Grace: A Storytelling Company. Watkins also serves as showrunner and executive producer.

Other executive producers include Elizabeth Raposo from Outlier Society, Corey Salter, Marc Rosen, and Matthew Gross from Authentic Brand Group, along with Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin, and Owen Shiflett. Additional executive production support comes from Roc Nation, Michele Anthony, Boyd Muir, and David Blackman for Polygram, as well as Stefano Agosto of Outlier Society and Josh Wakely of Grace: A Storytelling Company.

While the announcement did not delve deeply into the teaser details, its release indicates that marketing for the series is now in motion ahead of its November debut. The project joins a growing lineup of prestigious biographical dramas centered on major cultural figures.

With Muhammad Ali’s global legacy still celebrated decades after his boxing career, The Greatest seeks to delve into the complexities of his journey, including his influence on sports, politics, and civil rights. The involvement of numerous high-profile producers and companies underscores the scale of the production and the importance of its subject matter.

As the premiere date draws near, more promotional content is anticipated to be released, providing a closer look at how the series will depict one of the most influential athletes in modern history.
