Taylor Sheridan Recalls Landing Acting Role After Threatening to Knock Someone Out
Taylor Sheridan is widely recognized as the mastermind behind the ‘Yellowstone’ universe. He has created one of the most significant TV franchises in recent years, beginning with ‘Yellowstone’ in 2018 on Paramount Network. The show became a massive success, reigniting interest in modern Western narratives. It later branched out into various spin-offs, including ‘1883’, ‘Tulsa King’, ‘Landman’, and other recent series tied to the Dutton family saga.
Before achieving success as a writer and producer, Sheridan was striving to make a name for himself as an actor. He appeared in series like ‘Veronica Mars’, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, and ‘Sons of Anarchy’, eventually landing roles in projects related to his own creations. Acting was his initial route in Hollywood before he transitioned into crafting and writing his own stories.
During an interview with Howard Stern, Sheridan reminisced about a memorable incident from his early acting career. He recounted an audition where another actor continually interrupted him. Sheridan warned the actor to cease, and tensions quickly escalated.
Sheridan vividly recalled the moment, stating, “I told him I was gonna. I’m like, ‘Look, if you interrupt me again, I’m going to knock you the f–k out,’ and he looked at me like I was nuts. Then he kept talking, and I was just sitting on the couch kind of like this, and I just went pop, and then I knew this is over.”
He admitted to hitting the other actor during the audition, immediately fearing he had jeopardized his chances of landing the role. After the incident, he left the audition room, convinced that his opportunity was lost.
However, what followed took him by surprise. Upon returning to his talent agency, he learned that he had actually been cast in the role. He expressed his confusion, as he had not anticipated such an outcome.
The role itself, as Sheridan described, was quite simple. It was a minor acting job in a commercial-style scene where he interacted with furniture. He humorously noted that it required little skill and was more of a straightforward performance than anything demanding.
Sheridan also shared another anecdote from that job, where he spoke with someone on set who turned out to be the executive producer. Initially, he did not recognize the person and later discovered that the producer had specifically hired him due to the audition incident.
After that early phase, Sheridan gradually shifted away from acting in others’ projects. In recent years, most of his appearances have been in shows he has created or produced, such as ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘1883’. His last roles outside his own work were much earlier, featuring small parts in films and TV series.
Today, Sheridan primarily focuses on writing and producing. He continues to expand his TV universe with new series and film projects, while his acting career has largely taken a back seat. Nevertheless, his story from The Howard Stern Show reveals a different side of his early Hollywood days when he was still navigating his path as an actor.
