Marvel has kept Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom under wraps longer than most villains in the franchise’s history. With four trailers released for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ without a clear glimpse of the character, fans have been left to piece together his design from limited information rather than official reveals.

This scarcity has turned toy leaks into an unexpected source of insights. From Hasbro action figures appearing through overseas retailers to a brief, shadowy cameo in the post-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ merchandise has provided more substantial details than any studio-approved marketing thus far.

The latest leak suggests something much more significant than just a costume detail. According to reports from leakers, an upcoming LEGO set associated with the film is rumored to feature not just one Doctor Doom figure but multiple versions, each with a different colored mask and cloak. This hints that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ may showcase several distinct Doctor Doom variants on screen.

This aligns with earlier reports suggesting the film will introduce at least two female Doctor Doom variants, one in a purple cloak with a golden mask and another clad entirely in gold, alongside the traditional green and silver version that fans expect from the comics. A rumored LEGO set featuring Doctor Doom battling Thor is said to include one of these female variants designed as a mech, adding physical scale to the concept.

The notion of multiple Doctor Doom variants fits seamlessly into a narrative centered around a multiverse collision. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is anticipated to unite heroes from three different universes, and a villain capable of existing in various forms across those realities aligns with the grand scale the Russo Brothers seem to be aiming for.

This also clarifies why Marvel has been so tight-lipped about the character’s design despite intense fan interest. Revealing even one version of Doom prematurely could disclose how many variants exist and what role each plays in the overarching story, something the studio has clearly been trying to keep under wraps in every trailer released thus far.

The Doctor Doom minifigure at the heart of this latest leak is linked to a rumored 379-piece bust set, expected to launch around September ahead of the film’s December release. It closely matches design details seen in earlier Hasbro leaks, including the character’s dark green hooded cloak and silver iron mask. Whether the final set will include any of the alternate colored variants remains to be seen, but the timing is just months ahead of the film’s theatrical debut.

For a character defined by control and obsession, it’s fitting that fans are piecing together his look one leaked plastic piece at a time rather than through any grand studio reveal. Each new toy image has become a mini-event, with collectors and casual fans alike analyzing every accessory for clues about the plot.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, uniting the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against what has been described as an existential threat spanning multiple universes. Until Marvel decides to reveal more, it seems LEGO sets may continue to do the studio’s job for it.
