The DC Universe might have an unexpected surprise for fans in ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’. A recent behind-the-scenes photo has sparked speculation that a character from ‘The Suicide Squad’ could be making a return in the upcoming Superman sequel.

The buzz started when Mikaela Hoover, who portrayed Cat Grant in ‘Superman’, shared a workout photo on social media featuring Edi Gathegi, who reprises his role as Mister Terrific, alongside Flula Borg. Borg, who played Javelin in ‘The Suicide Squad’, met his end during the team’s perilous mission in the 2021 film.

Fans quickly began to wonder if Borg might be involved in the next DCU movie, given his appearance with actors linked to ‘Man of Tomorrow’. However, neither DC Studios nor director James Gunn has confirmed Borg’s return, leaving the speculation unverified for now.

The situation is further complicated by the DC Universe reboot, which has altered the usage of previous characters. While some actors from the old DC Extended Universe are returning, they may not reprise the same roles. Gunn has already demonstrated that actors can transition into new characters within the franchise.

A notable example is Nathan Fillion, who appeared as T.D.K. in ‘The Suicide Squad’ before being cast as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lantern characters in the new DCU. This opens up the possibility for Borg to return in a completely different role rather than as Javelin.

If Flula Borg is indeed part of ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’, there are various ways the film could incorporate him. He could return as a new hero or another figure in the DC Universe. Alternatively, Javelin might have survived the events of ‘The Suicide Squad’, although the film would need to clarify how that occurred.

‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ will continue the narrative of David Corenswet’s Superman following the success of his first film. The sequel will see Superman teaming up with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor as the two long-time adversaries are compelled to collaborate against a much larger threat.

The movie will also introduce Brainiac into the DC Universe, with Lars Eidinger portraying the iconic villain. Brainiac’s arrival is expected to elevate the stakes for Superman and steer the new DCU towards a more cosmic direction.

Several other characters from ‘Superman’ are also making a return. Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific will appear again, along with Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern, John Stewart, who previously portrayed the character in the HBO series ‘Lanterns’ before making his DCU movie debut.

The upcoming sequel is part of DC Studios’ first chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters,” as James Gunn and Peter Safran continue to develop a connected universe with new iterations of classic heroes.

For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation regarding Flula Borg’s involvement. The recent photo may hint at a hidden detail, or it could simply be a friendly behind-the-scenes moment among members of the DC family.

‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
