Na Hong-jin’s upcoming sci-fi action thriller ‘Hope’ is set to deliver a thrilling blend of alien creatures, explosive battles, and survival horror on the big screen. The first full trailer for the Korean film has dropped, offering audiences a glimpse of the massive scale and chaotic action that have already made this movie one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

The film is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on September 9 through Neon, following a buzz-filled debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Reports from the festival indicate that the movie quickly captured attention after its late-night Competition screening, with many praising its unique combination of science fiction, action, and intense monster mayhem.

Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, known for ‘The Wailing’, ‘Hope’ unfolds in a small South Korean fishing village that suddenly becomes the epicenter of a terrifying event. The once-peaceful community is thrown into chaos when a mysterious creature emerges, wreaking havoc.

The trailer introduces police officer Bum-seok, played by Hwang Jung-min, who investigates the bizarre situation alongside officer Sung-ae, portrayed by Hoyeon. As the threat escalates, a group of local hunters, led by Sung-ki, played by Zo In-sung, decides to take matters into their own hands and track down the creature.

What starts as an investigation quickly transforms into a desperate fight for survival. The trailer showcases humans battling enormous alien monsters, crashing spaceships, intense gunfights, and perilous chases through forests, roads, and open fields. The action appears relentless, promising a film that fuses creature horror with a grand-scale sci-fi war.

The movie boasts an international cast, including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. Their involvement has heightened interest in the project, particularly as the film merges Korean storytelling with a global cast and a vast science fiction concept.

‘Hope’ was produced by Na Hong-jin’s production company, Forged Films, in collaboration with Plus M Entertainment. Plus M Entertainment is also managing international sales for the film, while Neon secured the North American rights before its Cannes premiere. The film has also established distribution agreements in several other international markets.

This project is described as one of Na Hong-jin’s largest productions to date, moving away from the smaller-scale mystery and horror narratives he is known for, and venturing into a more expansive sci-fi experience. Nevertheless, the filmmaker’s emphasis on tension and human reactions remains central to the story.

During Cannes, Na Hong-jin revealed that he has already penned a script for a potential sequel to ‘Hope’, hinting that the story could extend beyond the first film if audiences respond favorably.

With its colossal creatures, grand action sequences, and unique genre blend, ‘Hope’ is poised to be one of the most ambitious Korean sci-fi films in recent years. The new trailer has provided fans with their most extensive look yet at the destruction that awaits when the movie premieres in theaters.
