Fans of the biopic ‘Michael’ are taking their celebration to the streets. British fan account Giorgio A Tardio announced this week a gathering in London called “The Billion Box Office Celebration,” scheduled for Camden High Street on Saturday, July 25, from 5 pm to 7 pm, coinciding with the film’s push toward the ten-figure milestone worldwide.

The event is being organized by fan communities MJ Remembered and Tom Jackson Vibes, in partnership with Blues Mobile Party and Michael Movie Supporters, as indicated by the flyer circulating online. This follows a trend of grassroots meetups that have emerged around the film’s release, where fans come together to dance, sing, and celebrate the movie’s box office success in person rather than just online.

The timing aligns with the film’s current financial standing. As of July 6, 2026, ‘Michael’ had grossed $991.4 million worldwide, putting it within reach of the billion-dollar mark. The film earned $371.2 million domestically and $620.1 million internationally, with strong holdover business in regions like the United Kingdom helping the total continue to rise during its theatrical run.

‘Michael’ chronicles the early years of the iconic singer, from his childhood with the Jackson 5 to the Bad tour era. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s real-life nephew, alongside Juliano Valdi as a young Michael. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film features a supporting cast that includes Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, and Laura Harrier.

This movie has already made history at the box office for its genre. It opened with $97.2 million domestically, setting a record for a biographical musical film, and by mid-June had surpassed $911.9 million globally, overtaking ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as the highest-grossing musical biopic ever. Shortly after, it also surpassed ‘Oppenheimer’s $975 million to become the highest-grossing biographical film of all time.

Beyond the impressive numbers, ‘Michael’ has fostered a communal theater experience. Flash mobs have emerged in cities from Manhattan to London, with audiences dancing in the aisles and treating screenings like concerts, reminiscent of the midnight movie culture surrounding ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. The Camden event aims to extend that energy, moving the celebration from inside the cinema to the streets.

Lionsgate is already looking ahead beyond this milestone. A sequel covering more of Jackson’s life is in development, indicating that the studio sees potential for the story to continue well past this summer’s box office run. Regardless of whether ‘Michael’ officially crosses the billion-dollar line by July 25, fans in Camden are clearly eager to start the celebration.
