Marvel Reveals Exciting New Look at ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Showdown With Hulk
A fresh image and video are creating a buzz among fans regarding the imminent showdown between Spider-Man and the Hulk in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The new shot features Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the midst of a rampage through debris, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swings in from the other side, providing the clearest view yet of what seems to be one of the film’s major action sequences.
This pairing has been speculated for months, and recent trailers have begun to confirm the Hulk’s significant role in Peter Parker’s journey this time. Footage has depicted Peter confiding in Bruce Banner about losing control and needing his help to manage his current situation. Banner reveals he has discovered a method to suppress his mutating DNA, but the device malfunctions, triggering a transformation right in front of Spider-Man.
The film takes place several years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, with Peter Parker navigating a new chapter following Doctor Strange’s memory spell, which erased his existence from everyone’s memory, including Zendaya’s MJ. This amnesia, coupled with Peter’s unstable new powers, appears to be what drives him to seek out Banner, establishing a mentor dynamic that quickly becomes complicated once the Hulk enters the fray.
Sony has been cautious about revealing too much of the fight. New footage hints at Spider-Man utilizing a modified Shocker gauntlet to level the playing field against the Hulk, suggesting that Peter may rely on Damage Control technology and his ingenuity rather than sheer strength to survive the encounter. So far, trailers have primarily shown Spider-Man attempting to escape the Hulk as quickly as possible, given the significant mismatch in their abilities during a direct confrontation.
Behind the scenes, Marvel reportedly contemplated taking the Hulk in a more unconventional direction. Concept art from the film’s official art book showcases extensive designs for a Gray Hulk transformation for Banner, but the studio ultimately opted for the classic green Savage Hulk that audiences are familiar with. This decision was made to maintain the focus on delivering the iconic powerhouse fans expect, rather than introducing a new look mid-film.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ also features Sadie Sink in a still largely undisclosed role and Jacob Batalon returning as Ned. There is speculation that Ruffalo’s involvement could connect to his future roles in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as the Multiverse Saga approaches its conclusion. Tom Holland has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating to Esquire that it is the best Spider-Man movie he has ever worked on.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set to swing into theaters on July 31. With the Hulk officially confirmed and new footage being released almost weekly, the marketing strategy clearly hinges on this unexpected duel as the film’s major draw leading up to its release.
