Millie Bobby Brown is reminiscing about her time on the set of ‘Stranger Things’, sharing some amusing anecdotes that go beyond battling creatures from the Upside Down. The actress recently disclosed that her American co-stars often questioned the meals she brought, as they were not familiar with traditional British comfort foods.

During her appearance on Hot Ones, Brown explained how her eating habits became a source of humor among the cast of ‘Stranger Things’. The actress, who portrayed Eleven throughout all five seasons of the beloved Netflix series, noted that her co-stars were frequently puzzled by the food she brought from home.

“When I was on ‘Stranger Things’, I used to get food-shamed a lot,” Brown shared. She mentioned that the reactions typically came from her American castmates, who were surprised by her traditional British meals.

“When I would go on, they’d be all American, and they’d be like, ‘Mate, what the f** are you eating?’” she recalled.

One dish that particularly baffled her co-stars was her favorite simple meal: a jacket potato, which is a baked potato often topped with beans and cheese. While this dish is a staple in the U.K., Brown noted that her American colleagues found it quite unusual. “They were like, ‘It’s like you live in the 1800s and you found some, like, speciality. It’s, like, wrapped in tinfoil,’” she explained.

Due to their reactions, Brown humorously mentioned that she sometimes had to find a quiet spot to enjoy her meals without being questioned. She laughed as she recounted how her castmates couldn’t comprehend why she would eat something so simple. “They’d be like, ‘What is that?’ And I was just like, ‘It’s a jacket potato with beans and cheese. It’s nothing.’”

Brown observed that the reactions were entirely different when she worked on projects in the U.K. Instead of being questioned, her British colleagues immediately recognized and appreciated her meal. “So they didn’t get it,” Brown said about her ‘Stranger Things’ castmates. “But when I go on set in England, everyone’s like, ‘Having a jacket! Lovely!’”

The actress spent years working alongside her ‘Stranger Things’ castmates, including Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder. The series has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows and recently concluded its final season after nearly a decade of success.

Brown’s reflections come as she continues to look back on her career following ‘Stranger Things’. She has embarked on new projects and is also starting a new chapter in her personal life, living on a farm in Georgia with her husband Jake Bongiovi and their daughter.

Despite now residing in the United States, Brown still enjoys the British dishes she grew up with. She has humorously noted that her mother’s cooking often revolves around spaghetti bolognese, or “spag bol,” which remains one of her favorite comfort foods.

“For 50 years, I’m just gonna have a recipe book of varieties of spag bols,” Brown joked, adding that her mother’s version is still her favorite.

Though her ‘Stranger Things’ co-stars may not have initially understood her British food preferences, Brown’s story highlights how even small cultural differences can lead to some of the funniest moments among friends.
