Marvel’s mutant dilemma has lingered for years, quietly evolving as the studio navigated the Multiverse Saga one franchise at a time. Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which returned the X-Men rights to Marvel, fans have been eagerly awaiting nearly six years for clarity on how and when Earth-616 would finally welcome Professor Xavier’s team.

This anticipation has led to numerous hints along the way. Characters such as Kamala Khan and Namor have already been introduced as mutants within the MCU, while Deadpool and Wolverine have brought Fox-era heroes into the mix through the multiverse. Additionally, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast made a cameo at the end of ‘The Marvels’. However, none of this provided a definitive roadmap for what lies ahead after the Multiverse Saga concludes.

This week, Kevin Feige addressed these concerns directly. According to a report from QiaoPM, Feige confirmed that mutants will start appearing in the MCU following the conclusion of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, positioning this film as the gateway into Marvel’s next significant era.

Feige elaborated on the timeline, indicating that some familiar X-Men characters will appear in Marvel’s upcoming films. He emphasized that the storyline of ‘Secret Wars’ will pave the way for a new era of mutants and the X-Men. Feige described this moment as a long-held dream of the studio finally coming to fruition, highlighting that Marvel has regained the X-Men after years of the rights being held elsewhere.

Feige further clarified that ‘Secret Wars’ will serve as a reset for the MCU rather than a complete reboot, contrasting it with ‘Endgame’, which focused on endings, while ‘Secret Wars’ is about new beginnings. He also confirmed that X-Men characters from previous films will be recast, with new actors stepping into these roles alongside entirely new mutants making their Marvel debuts.

Thematically, Feige framed this decision by noting that X-Men stories have always revolved around young individuals who feel different and like outsiders, a universal narrative that Marvel intends to embrace moving forward. He previously indicated that Marvel has a broader story in mind leading up to ‘Secret Wars’ and beyond, positioning the X-Men as a vital part of that future rather than merely a side project.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027, to conclude the Multiverse Saga. With Feige now confirming that the mutant era will commence once this saga ends, fans finally have a concrete timeline after years of speculation about when Marvel’s beloved band of outcasts will take the spotlight.
