Robert Pattinson Shares Which Set Was Tougher ‘Dune’ or ‘The Odyssey’
Robert Pattinson has spent the last year immersed in two of the most challenging productions in contemporary blockbuster cinema, transitioning between Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic ‘The Odyssey’ and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’. Both films are known for their physically demanding environments, making it a tough decision for Pattinson to determine which one truly tested him more.
Pattinson and Zendaya have developed a strong friendship during this busy period, having previously co-starred in the A24 romance ‘The Drama’ before taking on roles in both ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’.
Their overlapping projects have made them a dynamic duo on the press circuit, where they frequently share insights about the grueling nature of these large-scale productions.
In one of these discussions, Zendaya directly asked Pattinson which set was more challenging between ‘Dune’ and ‘The Odyssey’. Without much pause, Pattinson indicated that it was likely ‘Dune’, attributing the difficulty to the unique challenges of filming in a real desert setting.
He elaborated that despite the extreme heat, the production enforced a strict rule against visible sweating on camera, humorously noting that the crew would request he stop sweating entirely while filming in the desert. He quipped that even in England, he still sweats, and a single drop could jeopardize an entire take, turning something as natural as sweating into a significant occupational challenge.
Zendaya chimed in, highlighting the extensive prosthetic makeup required for Pattinson’s role in the franchise.
She explained that if a shot had to be redone due to visible sweat, the makeup would need a complete overhaul, which could take up to three hours, transforming a minor continuity issue into a major setback for the entire production.
This prosthetic-heavy process aligns with what audiences have come to expect from the ‘Dune’ franchise, which often requires extensive makeup and costume work to bring Frank Herbert’s universe to life. Zendaya expressed her empathy for Pattinson during this process, noting how she had never seen him so still, given his typically animated demeanor.
Pattinson’s journey to joining the ‘Dune’ franchise was somewhat serendipitous; he reportedly asked Zendaya during the production of ‘The Drama’ if she could assist him in securing a role in one of the films. A few months later, he received a phone call confirming his casting, which he humorously noted was clearly not a coincidence.
With both ‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘The Odyssey’ being among the most anticipated releases tied to Pattinson and Zendaya’s overlapping schedules, their candid exchanges provide fans with a genuine glimpse into the demanding nature of these massive productions behind the scenes.
