Marvel has expertly crafted a narrative that keeps audiences on edge, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues this tradition with its marketing filled with suspense. With a new enigmatic villain, a fractured support system, and Peter Parker battling crime in solitude, fans entered the theater prepared for potential losses.

Set four years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ the film depicts Peter living in complete isolation after erasing himself from the memories of those he loves. He is now a full-time crime fighter in a city that has forgotten him, while a strange new threat pushes him to his limits both physically and mentally.

So, for those wondering, no significant characters meet their demise in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ Peter’s steadfast no-killing principle, coupled with his determination to prevent Frank Castle’s Punisher from taking lives, ensures that the core cast remains intact.

However, the film is not devoid of near-death experiences. MJ is thrown off a rooftop after Sadie Sink’s character, revealed to be Jean Grey, briefly takes control of her body, but Spider-Man manages to rescue her just in time. Bill Metzger from the Department of Damage Control also finds himself in a perilous situation at the hands of Jean, yet she ultimately spares him, allowing him to escape instead of facing custody.

Peter himself comes closest to death during the film, finding himself in Punisher’s line of fire while attempting to reason with Jean. Every villain, including Michael Mando’s Scorpion, is apprehended rather than killed, with Metzger being the notable exception who simply vanishes during the climax.

The only death that impacts the story is that of Sara Grey, Jean’s sister, which occurs before the film’s events. It is revealed that Damage Control killed Sara while trying to extract and replicate the psychic abilities she and Jean shared, providing the emotional core for Jean’s journey throughout ‘Brand New Day.’

This grief ultimately drives Jean toward her villainous path as she seeks vengeance against those responsible for her sister’s death. However, in the film’s climax, instead of killing Metzger in retaliation, Jean chooses mercy after reflecting on her experiences with Peter, opting to save his life and honor her sister’s memory.

The film concludes with a brief post-credits scene featuring Ned’s Spidey Tracker indicating Peter’s status as “Off-planet,” hinting at a location beyond Earth’s moon. The implications for the franchise’s future remain uncertain, but it has already sparked speculation about Spider-Man’s next adventures.

Despite its heavy themes of loss, isolation, and grief, ‘Brand New Day’ ultimately plays it safe regarding character deaths, opting instead to utilize the threat of loss to foster character development, anchoring its emotional weight in backstory rather than immediate tragedy.
