While most actors cherish their days off as a precious escape from the demands of filming, Zendaya approaches her time away from the set quite differently.

This became evident during a recent joint interview with Tom Holland, where they discussed how they spend their downtime between projects. What began as a lighthearted conversation quickly revealed Zendaya’s profound passion for filmmaking.

Holland humorously pointed out his fiancée’s work habits, joking, “if you’re not working, you will go to work,” which prompted Zendaya to share her own perspective on why she finds it hard to stay away from film sets, even when she has no obligations. Instead of denying the claim, she embraced it wholeheartedly.

“Yeah, cuz it’s fun,” Zendaya remarked. “I mean I remember like they were shooting this incredible opening sequence for ‘Dune.’ And I was like, is it cool if I just was there early in Budapest and it was cold and they had this crazy setup and I was like, I got to see this.” She expressed that it’s “just cool as a fan alone” to witness a large-scale production unfold in real-time.

This sentiment aligns with Zendaya’s previous comments about her career. She has described the experience of working on ‘The Odyssey’ as akin to pure fandom, revealing that watching Holland perform on set brought her to tears from pride, even though they didn’t share any scenes together.

Her busy schedule over the past year makes this habit even more impressive. Zendaya has openly discussed balancing roles in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ ‘Dune: Part Three,’ ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, and ‘The Odyssey’ during overlapping production periods. At one point, she described finishing an overnight shoot for ‘Euphoria’ at 4 AM, only to catch a flight to Budapest hours later to begin work on ‘Dune.’

Despite her relentless schedule, Zendaya’s enthusiasm for her craft remains undiminished. She concluded the discussion with a straightforward statement: “I love what I do and I love my job; the actual creative part of making it doesn’t always feel like a job.”

This perspective reflects a consistent theme in how Zendaya discusses her relationship with fame and filmmaking. She has been open about her discomfort with the celebrity aspect of the industry, yet her passion for acting and being on set remains unwavering, viewing the work itself as the true reward.

For someone whose name is synonymous with some of 2026’s biggest films, her heartfelt explanation for her constant presence on set—camera or no camera, day off or not—makes perfect sense. It appears that watching films come to life is simply where Zendaya feels most at home.
