Superhero fatigue was expected to dominate 2026, but ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ had different plans. Tom Holland’s fourth solo adventure as Peter Parker has been rewriting the record books, and industry experts believe the celebration is far from over.

The film debuted with an astonishing $355 million domestically over its first three days, just shy of ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ long-held $357.1 million record. However, final actuals reported Monday increased the figure to $360 million, officially making ‘Brand New Day’ the biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history.

Now, box office analysts are focusing on another milestone. According to those tracking Monday’s ticket sales, ‘Brand New Day’ is on track to break the all-time record for the highest single-day Monday gross, holiday or otherwise, with projections suggesting a final domestic total exceeding $45 million.

This record is currently held by 2018’s ‘Black Panther,’ which earned approximately $40.15 million on the Monday of its Presidents’ Day opening weekend, narrowly surpassing ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ Notably, ‘Black Panther’s’ record-setting Monday benefited from a federal holiday, while ‘Brand New Day’ would be achieving this feat on a regular business day, making it even more impressive if it succeeds.

The film’s momentum has been building since its release. ‘Brand New Day’ has already set the record for the biggest domestic opening day with $168 million, surpassing ‘Endgame’s’ previous benchmark of $157 million, and it also achieved a new record for the largest Thursday preview haul at $72 million.

Sony has ample reason to celebrate beyond the records themselves. Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman emphasized audience reaction over box office numbers, stating to Hollywood Reporter, “To be truly honest, it feels fantastic.”

The film’s success comes after a challenging period for the superhero genre, with several recent Marvel releases falling short of expectations. ‘Brand New Day’ finds Peter Parker several years after ‘No Way Home,’ living in isolation after erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves, a storyline that resonates with both critics and audiences alike.

Globally, the film’s performance is equally impressive. ‘Brand New Day’ amassed $572 million internationally, resulting in a worldwide opening total of $927 million, making it the second-biggest global debut ever, just behind ‘Endgame.’ The film is expected to cross the billion-dollar mark within days, joining an elite group of MCU titles.

The timing is perfect for Sony and Marvel, especially with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and other major releases still to come in 2026. Industry analysts are increasingly optimistic that this year could push domestic box office revenue toward the $10 billion mark for the first time since before the pandemic changed moviegoing habits.

For now, all eyes are on today’s final numbers. If ‘Brand New Day’ lands in the $45 million-plus range, it won’t just break ‘Black Panther’s’ Monday record; it will also add another line to what is already shaping up to be one of the most historic openings in film history.
