‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Breaks Records with Historic Weekday Box Office Performance
While blockbuster openings often steal the spotlight, the true measure of a movie’s longevity is revealed in the days that follow, when the initial excitement fades and audiences decide to attend on their own terms. Weekday performance may not generate flashy trailers, but it provides a more authentic insight into whether a film has truly resonated with viewers.
This is precisely the narrative surrounding ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ as it continues its remarkable theatrical journey. The film shattered the domestic opening weekend record before the weekend concluded, and the box office achievements have kept accumulating since then.
The latest milestone came when the film recorded the largest Tuesday ever at the domestic box office, raking in $42 million. This figure eclipses the previous record held by Sony and Marvel’s own ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ which garnered $39.2 million on its opening Tuesday in July 2019.
The web-slinger’s dominance during weekdays didn’t stop there. Just a day prior, the film had already set the record for the biggest Monday ever with $47 million, easily surpassing the previous record set by ‘Black Panther’ during its 2018 Presidents Day weekend, which earned $40.15 million, and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,’ which made $40.1 million in December 2015.
These impressive weekday earnings have propelled the film’s cumulative domestic total into extraordinary territory. As of Tuesday, ‘Brand New Day’ has reached a five-day domestic total of $449 million, making it the second-highest grossing release in the U.S. so far in 2026, just behind ‘Toy Story 5’s’ $464.6 million.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Sony’s film is quickly closing the gap, with industry analysts predicting it will soon surpass ‘Toy Story 5’ for the top domestic spot this year. This trajectory places ‘Brand New Day’ among a select group of films capable of dominating both weekend and weekday box office results simultaneously.

The film’s international performance has mirrored its domestic success. ‘Brand New Day’ has already surpassed $1.1 billion worldwide, officially making it the highest-grossing movie of the year to date globally.
This achievement follows the film’s astonishing opening weekend, which saw it debut with a confirmed $360 million domestically and $572 million across 66 international markets, resulting in a combined global launch of $932 million. Only ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which opened to $1.22 billion worldwide in 2019, has recorded a larger global opening.
With such strong weekday momentum, industry experts are now looking at the film’s second weekend as another potential record-breaker. If the film experiences a modest 60% decline, projections indicate a second weekend haul of around $144 million, which would rank as the third-best sophomore performance in box office history, following ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $149.2 million and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $147.3 million.
For a film already being discussed alongside the biggest openings of all time, breaking Tuesday and Monday records feels less like a surprise and more like confirmation that ‘Brand New Day’ has become a significant cultural phenomenon rather than just a strong opening weekend.
