Robert Pattinson has dedicated much of his post-‘Twilight’ career to exploring characters who feel ensnared in unfamiliar worlds. From the desperate criminality in ‘Good Time’ to the fractured mind in ‘The Lighthouse,’ this trend has established him as one of the most unpredictable A-list actors today, equally at ease in blockbuster roles and unsettling arthouse films.

This trend continues with ‘Primetime,’ A24’s forthcoming drama-thriller that revisits one of the most controversial periods in American television. Directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim in his narrative feature debut, the film has been generating quiet excitement since its initial teaser was released in May.

Now, that excitement is about to culminate. A24 has unveiled a new poster featuring Pattinson fully embodying Chris Hansen, the former Dateline NBC correspondent who gained fame hosting “To Catch a Predator.” The full trailer for the film is set to drop tomorrow.

The new poster embraces the eerie, media-driven aesthetic that has characterized the film’s marketing thus far, featuring the tagline “Are you ready to make television history?” This echoes the film’s official logline, which centers on Hansen’s attempts in 2006 to create “television history” through hidden-camera confrontations that transformed his docuseries into a cultural sensation.

Pattinson’s portrayal of Hansen has already sparked interest due to how unrecognizable his voice is in character. Critics who viewed the initial teaser remarked on the actor’s ability to mimic Hansen’s unique vocal patterns and mannerisms with remarkable accuracy, a hallmark of an actor known for his diverse vocal choices in films like “The Devil All the Time” and “Mickey 17.”

This film marks Pattinson’s first full feature-producing credit, adding another layer of investment to a role that sees him channeling one of television’s more divisive real-life figures. He is joined in the cast by Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers in her acting debut, and Bokeem Woodbine, among others.

‘Primetime’ has already achieved a significant milestone ahead of its theatrical debut, securing a spot in the main competition lineup at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it will vie for the Golden Lion. The film is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide on September 25.

This release date places ‘Primetime’ in a competitive fall lineup alongside major films like Brad Pitt’s ‘Heart of the Beast’ and Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore.’ However, its Venice premiere prior to the wide release could help it stand out in early awards season discussions. Despite his acclaimed performances in films such as ‘The Lighthouse’ and ‘The Batman,’ Pattinson has yet to receive an Academy Award nomination, something industry insiders suggest this film’s strategic positioning aims to change.

The project also continues a busy year for the actor, who has already appeared in A24’s “The Drama” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” in 2026. With the full trailer set to be released soon, fans will finally get a comprehensive look at how far Pattinson has transformed for this role.
