Selena Gomez and Jennifer Stone Revive Alex and Harper’s Iconic Hat Song After ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Reboot Finale Drama
Fans of Disney Channel’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ were treated to a delightful throwback when Selena Gomez and Jennifer Stone reunited to recreate one of the show’s most hilarious and memorable moments.
The duo, who portrayed best friends Alex Russo and Harper Finkle in the original series, brought back their beloved “hat song” while filming the finale of the sequel series ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’. The nostalgic video quickly went viral, with longtime fans celebrating the return of this cherished moment.
The official ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Instagram account shared the reunion clip, captioned, “Like no time has passed 🥹💜.” In the video, Gomez and Stone perform their playful routine from the original series, singing about a “crazy funky junky hat” while perfectly matching their old dance moves.
This moment stirred up fond memories for fans who grew up watching the original show. Many viewers took to the comments section with emotional responses, expressing how the reunion reminded them of their childhood and showcased the enduring friendship between Gomez and Stone.
One fan remarked that the recreation “healed the inner child of every Disney Channel kid,” while another shared that they used to sing the song constantly during the original airing. Others simply celebrated the sight of Alex and Harper together again, noting that the duo’s chemistry remains unchanged.
This reunion comes at a pivotal time for the franchise, following the conclusion of ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’. The new series continued the Russo family saga and featured several familiar faces from the original show, but its final episodes also surprised viewers with a significant emotional twist.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the four-part finale revealed that Alex Russo’s former boyfriend Mason Greyback, played by Gregg Sulkin, had died prior to the events of the reboot. This storyline marked a significant shift for the franchise, which had traditionally shied away from darker developments involving beloved characters.
In the finale, Alex finds herself in a dream-like state, believing she is still living her old life with Harper. She ultimately learns that Mason has returned to help her understand what transpired and guide her back to reality.
During their heartfelt conversation, Mason tells Alex that a future awaits her, including a family and a daughter who needs her. He explains that he came back to assist her in moving forward.
Alex grapples with the news but is touched that Mason returned for her. Before their farewell, he tells her, “I’ll always love you, Alex Russo. And I’ll always be watching over you.”
While the finale offered fans a bittersweet farewell to one character, Gomez and Stone’s reunion provided a lighter moment — a reminder of the friendship and humor that made the original series so beloved.
The complete four-part finale of ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ is currently available to stream on Disney+.
