Will Estes Returns as Jamie Reagan in Upcoming Episode of ‘Boston Blue’
Will Estes is set to reprise his role as Jamie Reagan in an upcoming episode of the CBS spinoff, bringing one of the most recognizable characters from ‘Blue Bloods’ into the new narrative centered around Danny Reagan’s Boston adventures.
Deadline has confirmed Estes’ return after Donnie Wahlberg, who portrays Danny Reagan, shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram featuring Estes alongside Wahlberg and ‘Boston Blue’ stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen.
Wahlberg expressed his excitement on Instagram, stating, “Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! AKA Will Estes!”
Estes has portrayed Jamie throughout all 14 seasons of ‘Blue Bloods’, where Jamie, the youngest son of Frank Reagan, became one of the NYPD’s most respected officers during the show’s long run on CBS.

His return offers longtime fans another link to the original series, which concluded in 2024 after over a decade on air.
‘Boston Blue’ has already seen several familiar faces from the Reagan family return. Wahlberg continues his role as Danny Reagan, while Bridget Moynahan has reprised her role as Danny’s sister Erin Reagan. Len Cariou is back as family patriarch Henry Reagan, and Will Hochman returns as Joe Hill.
The new series follows Danny as he transitions from New York to the Boston Police Department. Instead of collaborating with the same family members and colleagues from ‘Blue Bloods’, Danny is now adapting to a completely different department and city.
Danny’s son Sean is also part of the new series, though the role has been recast for ‘Boston Blue’. Mika Amonsen now portrays Sean, taking over from Andrew Terraciano, who played the character in the original show.
Jamie’s appearance could provide the spinoff with an opportunity to delve into Danny’s family connections while showcasing how things have evolved since ‘Blue Bloods’ concluded.
It remains unclear how significant Estes’ role will be or what brings Jamie to Boston. CBS has yet to disclose full details about his episode, leaving viewers eager to find out whether Jamie is merely visiting his brother or getting involved in Danny’s latest case.
This return coincides with ‘Boston Blue’ gearing up for its second season. Deadline previously reported that CBS renewed the series for Season 2 in December, with the new season set to premiere on October 9.

The renewal indicates that CBS sees significant potential in Danny Reagan’s storyline, even after ‘Blue Bloods’ came to a close. Reintroducing characters from the original series allows the spinoff to maintain its connection to the Reagan family while establishing its own identity.
For fans who witnessed Jamie’s journey from a rookie officer to a key member of the Reagan family, seeing Estes back on screen with Wahlberg is sure to be a delightful reunion.
With Danny now residing and working in Boston, Jamie’s appearance could also pave the way for more ‘Blue Bloods’ characters to make appearances in the spinoff.
For now, details remain under wraps. However, one thing is clear: Jamie Reagan is heading to Boston, providing longtime ‘Blue Bloods’ fans with yet another reason to tune in.
