Dafne Keen’s X-23 Reportedly in Talks for Marvel’s X-Men Reboot
Dafne Keen has spent nearly a decade establishing one of the most cherished segments of the X-Men film franchise. She first introduced Laura Kinney to audiences in 2017’s ‘Logan’ and made a memorable return in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ This brief but impactful cameo reignited fan excitement for the character, leading to ongoing speculation about X-23’s next appearance as Marvel Studios shapes its mutant future.
As Marvel’s untitled ‘X-Men’ reboot moves closer to assembling its cast, speculation has intensified. Although the film is not expected to release until 2028, the studio has been proactively testing and securing actors ahead of schedule, keeping fans engaged with every casting rumor that arises.
Recent reports suggest that Keen herself may be part of this new lineup. According to insider MyTimeToShine, Keen is currently in discussions to reprise her role as Laura, this time as part of Marvel’s mutant reboot rather than a standalone cameo.
This news has already sparked considerable excitement online, with fans expressing their enthusiasm across social media at the prospect of Keen continuing as X-23 in the next chapter of the franchise. Given her performances in both ‘Logan’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ many believe she is a perfect fit to lead the character’s future within the broader MCU.
This wouldn’t be the first time Keen has shown interest in continuing the role. In a previous conversation with ComicBook’s Phase Zero, she expressed her desire to return, stating she would even pay to do so, calling the opportunity to portray Laura the biggest honor of her career and mentioning that there’s still much of the character left to explore, according to ComicBook.
Keen’s enthusiasm for the role has remained consistent in various interviews since her ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ cameo, even as her actual involvement in future MCU projects has remained uncertain. At one point last year, she admitted she genuinely had no idea whether more appearances were being planned, despite her clear desire to keep playing the character.
Other reports regarding the character’s development have suggested that X-23 could also appear in upcoming Avengers films, with some insiders claiming she’ll play a role in both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ before the mutant reboot arrives. Whether these appearances will coincide with or be separate from any ‘X-Men’ casting remains unclear, given that many of the franchise’s plans are still being finalized behind the scenes.
Keen’s potential involvement adds another name to an already crowded and ever-changing ‘X-Men’ casting rumor mill. Numerous actors have been linked to various mutant roles in recent months, with some names gaining traction while others have already been dismissed as inaccurate.
With Disney’s D23 event approaching later this month, speculation has grown that Marvel could use the occasion to finally confirm more of its mutant lineup. If Keen’s involvement is confirmed, it would mark a significant continuation for a character whose journey through the franchise has already spanned multiple studios, directors, and cinematic universes.
For now, nothing about Keen’s reported casting has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more details in the coming weeks.
