Charlie Cox has spent years navigating the complexities of portraying Matt Murdock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, frequently facing questions about whether his crime-fighting alter ego will appear in the franchise’s major crossover events. With surprise cameos in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ fans have had ample reason to believe that Daredevil might eventually join the Avengers on the big screen.

This speculation intensified when Marvel announced ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as the next two significant team-up films concluding the Multiverse Saga. However, Cox’s name was notably missing from the star-studded cast reveal for ‘Doomsday,’ igniting months of theories about whether his absence was a genuine oversight or a clever misdirection from a studio known for keeping its biggest surprises under wraps.

Recently, Cox addressed the speculation directly, leaving little room for doubt. At MCM Comic Con in Birmingham this weekend, the actor confirmed that he will not be appearing as Daredevil in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ putting an end to months of rumors linking him to the film.

When a fan at the event’s Spotlight panel inquired about Daredevil’s potential involvement in ‘Secret Wars,’ Cox responded with a straightforward no, urging the audience to believe him this time, as reported by Cosmic Book News. His statement carries additional weight due to his history of denying MCU appearances that later turned out to be true, most notably his repeated denials regarding his cameo in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

Cox’s history with these kinds of denials has become a running joke among fans, who have learned to take his statements with skepticism. This was reinforced earlier this year when he denied involvement in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ a claim that proved accurate once the film was released and confirmed his absence.

At the convention, Cox appeared alongside his ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ co-star Deborah Ann Woll, who portrays Karen Page in the Disney+ series. In addition to addressing the Secret Wars question, Cox shared a previously unreleased detail about a deleted scene from the first season of ‘Born Again,’ which featured a dinner party sequence that showcased a lighter, more comedic version of Matt Murdock before the show’s tone was adjusted.

Despite Cox’s clear denial, some uncertainty remains due to Marvel’s well-known history of misdirection during marketing campaigns. The studio has previously confirmed actors’ involvement in major ensemble films without including them in initial cast announcements, as seen with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange casting for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

Cox has acknowledged in past interviews that Marvel has indicated his focus should remain on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ for now, while leaving the door open for a possible crossover appearance in the future. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to release this December, followed by ‘Secret Wars’ the next year, fans will have to wait and see if this latest denial holds true or becomes another entry in the long list of Marvel secrets Cox has kept under wraps.
