‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 3, Episode 9 Release Date and Recap
In Season 3 of ‘My Adventures with Superman,’ Clark Kent faces a unique challenge that goes beyond defeating villains. This season explores what remains of Clark when his powers, confidence, and sense of security are stripped away. Episode 9, titled “Vae Victis,” delves deeper into this theme by presenting Clark with one of his toughest trials yet.
The episode centers on Clark’s internal struggle with his Kryptonian heritage and the essence of true strength. The title “Vae Victis,” which translates from Latin as “Woe to the Vanquished,” encapsulates the episode’s somber tone.
The narrative kicks off at the Fortress of Solitude, where Clark is attempting to decipher the strange visions urging him to return. He hopes the Fortress can help him regain the powers he lost during his confrontation with Hank Henshaw, also known as Cyborg Superman. However, his situation worsens when Bizarro attacks him.
Clark soon learns that Bizarro is under Brainiac’s control. Despite believing they had defeated Brainiac earlier in the season, his digital presence lingers on. Brainiac’s virus has also infiltrated the Kryptonian drones, providing him with another means to manipulate events.
Brainiac presents Clark with a disturbing ultimatum: to regain his powers, he must prove his worthiness. However, Brainiac’s definition of worth is devoid of kindness or compassion, pushing Clark to embody the conqueror Krypton once was.

To challenge him, Brainiac sends Clark into a digital simulation reflecting Krypton’s early history. Stripped of his powers, Clark finds himself in a primitive state, armed only with a sword and a shield emblazoned with his House symbol.
Within this simulation, Clark discovers that Krypton’s past is not the heroic tale he envisioned. The ancient Kryptonians engaged in brutal conflicts with the Coluans, ultimately killing them and leveraging their knowledge to grow more powerful, establishing a vast empire.
Brainiac expects Clark to replicate this violent history, demanding he eliminate his enemies and assert dominance over the weaker. However, Clark defies this expectation.
Rather than viewing the Coluan he encounters as an adversary, Clark chooses to help him. Even when provoked, he refrains from violence, protecting the injured alien and uncovering that the Coluans were not invaders but refugees seeking safety. This revelation alters the entire premise of the test.
Clark realizes that the legacy he was urged to honor was built on suffering. The Kryptonian empire’s strength came at the cost of others, and that power ultimately failed to save Krypton. He understands that becoming a conqueror would mean forsaking the very qualities that define him as Superman.
This moment solidifies Clark’s strength. Though currently powerless, he retains his humanity, and the values instilled in him by the Kents surpass anything Brainiac can offer.
Meanwhile, Lois faces her own challenges. Waller is gearing up for the Eradicator’s return, organizing heroes and military forces for the impending conflict. She also grapples with Jonathan and Lara, the future children sent back to avert a catastrophic timeline.
Jonathan struggles with feelings of inadequacy, believing everyone relies on Superman while overlooking his potential to step into his uncle’s shoes. His frustration leads him into space, prompting Kara to pursue him.
Kara becomes a crucial support for Jonathan, reminding him that Superman was never flawless. What makes Clark exceptional is his resilience. Jonathan doesn’t need to be a perfect substitute for Superman; he must learn to persevere, even in the face of fear.
The episode culminates in the anticipated battle against the Eradicator, with Waller, Lex Luthor, Slade Wilson, Kara, Jonathan, and other heroes preparing for an assault at Area Zero. Lex faces a moral dilemma about whether to assist in rectifying the chaos he helped create.
When the Eradicator finally appears, the stakes escalate dramatically. Jonathan confronts the villain and seems to gain the upper hand, only for the Eradicator to split into two forms, presenting an even greater threat to the heroes.
Simultaneously, Clark’s own battle intensifies. Brainiac is enraged by Clark’s refusal to embrace his ideology, viewing mercy as a weakness and domination as the natural order. Clark, however, perceives strength through compassion.
Despite the trials Brainiac subjects him to, Clark steadfastly refuses to conform to his enemy’s desires. The episode concludes on a significant cliffhanger, with Clark still powerless and Bizarro poised to turn against those around him. With the Eradicator posing a threat and Brainiac still in control, the stage is set for a perilous season finale.
While “Vae Victis” may not be flawless, it effectively conveys its central theme. Clark’s true strength lies not in his superhuman abilities but in his choice to remain kind, even when faced with adversity.
This lesson could prove to be the most vital one Superman carries into the season finale.
