‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ continues to establish itself as a reliable entry in the expansive zombie franchise, focusing on Maggie and Negan as they navigate a fractured, walker-infested Manhattan. Since its third season premiered on July 26, the AMC spinoff has maintained a consistent weekly release schedule that fans have come to depend on.

This consistency has helped the show transition into a season that feels distinctly different from its predecessor. With new showrunner Seth Hoffman at the helm, this season has shifted from the tension-heavy dynamic of Season 2 between Maggie and Negan to a more collaborative partnership, as they work together to lead a struggling new community through the dangers of Manhattan.

Following this weekly pattern, episode 4 is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16, continuing the established Sunday release rhythm. As in previous weeks, the episode will first be available on AMC+ in the early morning hours before its traditional cable debut on AMC that evening at 9 p.m. ET.

This staggered release approach has remained consistent throughout the season, allowing streaming subscribers to access episodes hours ahead of the standard broadcast. Viewers eager to catch the episode as soon as possible should plan around the AMC+ rollout instead of waiting for the Sunday night airing.

Much of this season’s narrative momentum has emerged from the shifting power dynamics established in Season 2’s finale, where Maggie and Negan’s alliance became increasingly strained following a dramatic stabbing incident. Hershel further complicated the situation by aligning himself with the enigmatic Dama, believing her vision offered a better path forward, which puts him at odds with his own mother and positions him as a potential adversary in the new season.

With the Croat no longer in the picture, Maggie has been working in the early episodes of the season to regain control over Manhattan’s dwindling methane resources while co-leading the community alongside Renata. Critics have noted that this revamped format has encouraged ‘Dead City’ to take more creative risks than before, including a teased alternate reality episode that is already being highlighted as a potential standout of the season.

The returning cast this season includes Aimee Garcia and Jimmi Simpson, both confirmed for Season 3 back in September 2025, along with Raúl Castillo, who joined shortly thereafter. Their ongoing presence suggests that the season will continue to expand Manhattan’s growing cast of survivors as Maggie and Negan’s fragile new community faces increasing external pressures.

With a total of eight episodes planned for the season and a finale scheduled for September 13, ‘Dead City’ still has plenty of story to unfold before concluding this chapter of Maggie and Negan’s uneasy alliance. Given the ground the season has already covered in just a few weeks, episode 4 is set to further test the limits of their partnership.
