‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has been rewriting box office records since its release, and India is no exception. The latest installment featuring Tom Holland hit Indian theaters on July 30, a day ahead of its global launch, showcasing Sony and Marvel’s confidence in its international appeal.

This confidence has proven well-founded. The film achieved the largest four-day Hollywood opening in Indian box office history, raking in $35.4 million across 17,250 screens nationwide. PVR Inox, India’s biggest cinema chain, welcomed nearly 3 million viewers at an impressive 60 percent average occupancy during its opening weekend.

In just 11 days, ‘Brand New Day’ has surpassed James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India, as reported by Variety. The film’s earnings have exceeded ₹497 crore, surpassing the ₹484.36 crore earned by ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ during its entire run since 2022.

This milestone also marks ‘Brand New Day’ as the first Hollywood film to enter India’s ₹400 crore net club, with net earnings currently at ₹415.45 crore after its second weekend. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ now ranks third with ₹442.3 crore gross, trailing both ‘Brand New Day’ and the dethroned ‘Avatar’ sequel.

What’s particularly remarkable is the speed of this achievement. ‘Brand New Day’ reached the top of India’s all-time Hollywood chart faster than any of the eleven previous films that held that title, becoming just the twelfth Hollywood release to qualify among India’s all-time grossers.

The film’s second weekend alone generated ₹80.7 crore net, marking the highest second weekend ever for a Hollywood film in India. A breakdown of its earnings reveals a broad appeal, with English screenings contributing ₹217 crore, Hindi dubbing adding ₹149 crore, and Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions making up the rest.

India’s box office surge reflects the film’s success globally. ‘Brand New Day’ holds the record for the biggest opening weekend at $360 million domestically, along with the largest single-day and preview totals ever recorded, reaching $1 billion worldwide in just six days, second only to ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

Notably, ‘Brand New Day’ achieved this milestone while losing IMAX screens to another Tom Holland film, ‘The Odyssey,’ which opened in India on July 17 and has grossed nearly ₹200 crore. With both films performing strongly, Holland has dominated India’s summer box office landscape from two different franchises.

As ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues to break records, its performance in India adds another chapter to what is becoming one of the most historic theatrical runs in recent memory.
