‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Surpasses ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ at Domestic Box Office
Superhero films often see their records challenged quickly, and this summer’s box office has been no exception. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has spent nearly two weeks redefining what a modern blockbuster can achieve, showing no signs of slowing down.
The Tom Holland sequel launched with the largest domestic opening in box office history, raking in $360 million and surpassing the previous record held by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ from 2019. What followed has been equally impressive, as the film became the fastest to reach $400 million domestically and the second-fastest to hit $1 billion globally.
Now, the movie has reached another significant milestone on the all-time domestic charts. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially outperformed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s’ total domestic earnings, surpassing one of the highest-grossing superhero films ever.
‘Infinity War’ had long been a benchmark for Marvel’s box office success, opening to $257 million domestically in 2018 and becoming one of the top-grossing films in the franchise’s history. For ‘Brand New Day’ to exceed that total in less than two weeks speaks volumes about its extraordinary weekday performance compared to typical superhero sequels.
Much of this success has stemmed from strong showings on days when blockbusters usually see a drop-off. The film achieved the biggest Monday in box office history with $47 million, surpassing the previous record set by ‘Black Panther’ at $40 million, and it also recorded the largest Tuesday ever with $42 million, beating ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s’ previous high.

This consistency has allowed the film to become the highest-grossing movie of 2026 in just seven days, overtaking ‘Toy Story 5’ in the process. With a combined domestic and international gross exceeding $1 billion within six days, only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ reached that milestone faster.
Sony’s motion picture group chairman Tom Rothman celebrated the film’s opening weekend, linking its success to the themes of friendship and connection explored in the story.
Surpassing ‘Infinity War’ adds another record to the growing list of achievements for the film, and industry analysts anticipate more milestones ahead due to its strong weekday performance. With minimal competition on the release schedule and steady reviews, ‘Brand New Day’ seems set to continue its ascent on the all-time domestic box office list in the coming weeks.
The overall 2026 box office has also benefited from the film’s success, with summer ticket sales nearing the $4 billion mark for only the second time since the pandemic altered moviegoing habits. With hits like ‘Brand New Day’ and ‘The Odyssey,’ this year is shaping up to be one of the strongest for theaters in recent memory.
For a franchise many believed had peaked with ‘No Way Home,’ ‘Brand New Day’ has demonstrated that there is still room for growth.
