The search for Daniel Craig’s successor as 007 has turned into one of the most prolonged guessing games in modern entertainment, with years of speculation, shifting frontrunners, and numerous false alarms. Since Craig retired his tuxedo after 2021’s ‘No Time to Die,’ names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jacob Elordi have come and gone in the rumor mill, yet there has been no official confirmation from Amazon MGM Studios.

Despite this uncertainty, public figures have been eager to share their theories, and podcast host Richard Osman has recently added a new name to the mix. Known for his role as the presenter of “The Rest Is Entertainment” podcast and as the author of the “Thursday Murder Club” novels, Osman has a reputation for having reliable industry sources, which has helped his latest claim gain traction.

During a recent episode of the podcast, Osman mentioned to co-host Marina Hyde that Scottish actor Jack Lowden is now being “strongly considered” for the role, introducing a significant new contender into an already crowded field. While Osman framed this information as strong buzz rather than a confirmed deal, the specificity of his claim was enough to excite fans.

Osman explained how he received this tip, stating, “Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before,” before clarifying that his source specifically pointed to Lowden. He was quick to temper expectations, noting that this information does not equate to confirmation.

“It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered,” Osman remarked, adding that he personally believes Lowden would make an excellent Bond. He further described Lowden as having real Daniel Craig energy and predicted he could emerge as a standout choice if the role does indeed go to him.

Hyde concurred that the 36-year-old actor’s age positions him well for the long-term franchise commitment typically required for the Bond role. Lowden is currently best known for portraying River Cartwright in Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses,” alongside Gary Oldman, and has a diverse filmography that includes Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk,” the BBC’s “Wolf Hall” adaptation, and “Mary Queen of Scots.”

Lowden’s name now joins a list of actors who have been speculated about for the Bond role in recent months, including Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Louis Partridge, and Tom Francis. Public polling has also suggested names like Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill as fan favorites, although Osman expressed doubt about how seriously such surveys should be taken, given the public’s historically mixed success with Bond predictions.

Producer Amy Pascal has previously indicated that an official announcement regarding the next 007 could be expected before the year ends, suggesting that clarity may soon be on the horizon. Until then, names like Lowden’s are likely to continue circulating, fueled by insider claims, casting rumors, and the unquenchable curiosity of Bond fans for any tidbit of information.

With Lowden also set to portray Mr. Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming “Pride and Prejudice” adaptation later this year, his profile is only set to rise, regardless of how the Bond casting ultimately unfolds.
