‘Heated Rivalry’ Star Dylan Walsh Causes Sequel Speculation With 12 New Episodes Filming
Dylan Walsh may have inadvertently shared more details about the future of ‘Heated Rivalry’ than intended.
The actor, known for his role as David Hollander in the popular hockey romance, recently found himself in hot water after discussing the show’s upcoming episodes during a personalized Cameo video. The clip quickly circulated online, prompting Walsh to take a break from the platform.
In the video, Walsh mentioned returning to Canada to continue filming and hinted that a significantly larger number of episodes might be in the works.
“Getting ready to go back up to Canada and shoot some more episodes… so, I think we’re doing 12 this time,” Walsh stated.
This revelation immediately piqued the interest of fans, as it seems to contradict what series creator Jacob Tierney has previously indicated about the show’s format.
Tierney has consistently expressed a preference for keeping the series seasons concise, rather than extending the narrative over a larger number of episodes. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this year, he emphasized his desire to tell a more focused story instead of adding episodes merely for the sake of content.
“I don’t need to do 10 [episodes in a season],” Tierney remarked. “I would always rather tighten the belt than get loosey-goosey.”
Because of this, Walsh’s mention of 12 episodes has sparked considerable speculation. Some fans believe that production could be filming both the second and third seasons simultaneously, while others theorize that Season 2 might be divided into two parts.

No official confirmation has been provided regarding either scenario. The situation became even more intriguing when Walsh appeared to acknowledge the fallout from his Cameo video. Entertainment Weekly reported that a message on his Cameo profile indicated personalized videos would be unavailable until August 2027. Walsh also reportedly posted a message explaining his departure from the platform.
“Stepping away because a video went viral that got me in trouble,” the message stated. Both messages have since been removed from his profile.
The timing of Walsh’s accidental reveal is almost too coincidental for fans of ‘Heated Rivalry.’ As noted by Entertainment Weekly, Rachel Reid’s novel ‘The Long Game,’ which serves as the source material for Season 2, features a storyline involving a video going viral through a Cameo-like platform.
In the series, Walsh portrays the father of Shane Hollander, one half of the secret romance at the heart of the story. Hudson Williams plays Shane, while Connor Storrie takes on the role of Russian hockey star Ilya Rozanov. Their characters are professional rivals who have been secretly involved for years.
David discovered the relationship in the Season 1 finale after catching Shane and Ilya in a kiss, setting the stage for an important storyline in the next chapter.
Season 2 has begun filming and is currently anticipated to premiere in spring 2027. However, Walsh’s comments have raised new questions about how much of the story is being produced and whether fans might eventually receive more episodes than initially expected.
As of now, neither Walsh nor the producers have confirmed that 12 episodes are being filmed. Variety has also reached out to Walsh’s representative for comment.
Until an official announcement is made, fans may want to consider the 12-episode figure as an accidental tease rather than confirmation of Season 2’s final episode count.
