Sydelle Noel Discusses Her Journey to Playing Tamara Green in ‘Reacher’ Season 4
‘Reacher‘ has established itself by introducing a fresh cast each season, adapting a different Lee Child novel and surrounding Alan Ritchson’s formidable title character with new allies and foes. Season 4 continues this trend by adapting the 2009 novel ‘Gone Tomorrow’, thrusting Reacher into a complex conspiracy after witnessing a subway suicide in New York, which is linked to a corrupt politician and a dangerous terrorist plot. The season has already been renewed for a fifth installment.
This season introduces Tamara Green, a sharp Philadelphia detective who becomes involved in Reacher’s investigation. The character is portrayed by Sydelle Noel, an actress with nearly two decades of experience. Interestingly, her journey to landing the role of Tamara was not as straightforward as one might think.
Noel shared that she was initially considered for a different role on the show before securing the part of Tamara Green. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, she revealed that she was previously in the running for Neagley, Reacher’s capable former Army master sergeant and right-hand investigator, a role that ultimately went to Maria Sten. Although she hadn’t watched ‘Reacher’ prior to joining Season 4, she was familiar with the franchise through the earlier Tom Cruise films.
Despite missing out on the earlier role, Noel feels that landing Tamara was a perfect match for her. She recounted to Us Weekly how she felt an immediate connection to the character during her audition, recalling a moment when her husband pointed out that her extensive track running experience had prepared her for this physically demanding role.
Noel’s casting has struck a chord with fans, partly due to her recognizable face from several major projects. She is perhaps best known for her role as Cherry Bang on Netflix’s ‘GLOW,’ where she embraced her background as a former professional track athlete. She has openly expressed her desire to become an action hero in an industry that she believes lacks visible Black women in such roles.

In addition to ‘GLOW,’ Noel appeared in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ as a member of the Dora Milaje, the elite all-female warriors of Wakanda. Initially hesitant due to the role’s limited dialogue, she ultimately embraced what she described as the power of presence over words. She has also had a recurring role on The CW’s ‘Arrow’ as FBI Agent Samanda Watson, along with appearances in projects like ‘The Clearing’ and ‘Daughter of the Wolf.’
Within the series, Tamara is portrayed as a weary Philadelphia cop who becomes involved in Reacher’s world after facing unfair punishment for a tough moral decision in her past. This backstory creates a character who must confront her history while navigating the harsh realities of joining Reacher’s mission, all while matching his signature dry wit.
Season 4 also brings several other new characters alongside Tamara, including Christopher Marquette as Jacob Merrick and Agnez Mo as Lila Hoth, with Kevin Corrigan portraying Tamara’s detective partner, Shaun Docherty. With three episodes already released and the rest of the season continuing to air weekly, fans will have ample opportunities to see how Noel’s portrayal of Tamara Green evolves as the central conspiracy unfolds.
