‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Break into All-Time Top Five Domestic Box Office
Superhero films rarely maintain their dominance this late into their theatrical runs, but Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of Spider-Man is breaking the mold. Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has spent two weeks shattering box office records, establishing itself as the fastest-moving blockbuster of the year.
The film debuted on July 31 with the largest domestic opening ever recorded, and its momentum has not waned since. Its impressive staying power has become as noteworthy as its opening weekend figures, with each new milestone being reached quicker than industry analysts had anticipated.
This momentum is paving the way for one of the summer’s biggest box office narratives. ‘Brand New Day’ is on track to surpass ‘Top Gun: Maverick’s’ $718 million domestic total, officially entering the top five highest-grossing films of all time in North America, a list that has remained largely unchanged for years.
The film earned an estimated $11.3 million on its second Thursday in theaters, reflecting a mere 59.2% drop from the previous Thursday. This performance stands out sharply against other Marvel releases, with 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ experiencing a 65.1% drop at the same stage and 2024’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ dropping 49.1%.
This consistent performance has propelled the film’s domestic total to $715.9 million after just fourteen days in theaters, placing it nearly $57 million ahead of where ‘Endgame’ was at the same point in its run, despite ‘Brand New Day’ starting just $3 million ahead. According to Deadline, the film’s current domestic earnings already rank sixth all-time, running 31% ahead of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s’ pace at the same point, a film that ultimately concluded its domestic run at $804.7 million.
Surpassing ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ would elevate ‘Brand New Day’ into the top five highest-grossing domestic releases ever, joining an elite group that includes ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ and ‘Avatar.’ Industry estimates now suggest the film could cross $800 million domestically by next Tuesday at the latest, depending on its performance over the coming weekend.

With ‘Brand New Day’ already running approximately $50 million ahead of ‘Endgame’s’ pace at the same point in their respective runs, expectations for its final box office total continue to rise. Current projections suggest a potential domestic total of $900 million as a conservative estimate for the film’s total.
More ambitious forecasts place the film’s final domestic total between $910 million and $960 million, a range that would make it only the second film in history to surpass the $900 million mark domestically. Such a finish would also position ‘Brand New Day’ within striking distance of ‘The Force Awakens,’ whose eleven-year-old domestic record of $936.6 million has stood as the highest-grossing film of all time in the United States.
The film’s international success has been equally impressive. Its worldwide total has surpassed $1.1 billion, making it Sony’s biggest release ever overseas, surpassing ‘No Way Home’s’ previous foreign record of $1.106 billion.
For a franchise many believed had peaked with ‘No Way Home’ back in 2021, ‘Brand New Day’ is demonstrating that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man still has significant growth potential. Whether the film ultimately catches ‘The Force Awakens’ or simply secures a spot in the top five, its domestic run has already transformed expectations for what a superhero film can achieve at the box office in today’s theatrical landscape.
