Taylor Sheridan has established a reputation for creating reliable hits in the streaming world, and the latest numbers confirm this trend. His shows have become a surefire success for Paramount+, consistently attracting audiences that many other original series can only aspire to reach.

The most recent example is ‘Lioness,’ Sheridan’s espionage thriller featuring Zoe Saldaña, which made its return for a third season earlier this month. Fans had been eagerly speculating about the show’s return after a lengthy hiatus, but those concerns have dissipated now that the viewership figures are in.

The season 3 premiere of ‘Lioness’ attracted 7.1 million viewers within its first seven days of streaming, according to Paramount’s internal data. This figure significantly surpasses the audience numbers from season 2, which debuted in 2024 and garnered approximately 3 million domestic households in the same timeframe.

Such growth between seasons is uncommon for any streaming series, especially one that has already established a solid fan base. The increase is even more remarkable considering the uncertainty surrounding the show’s future, with earlier reports suggesting that season 3 might not debut until as late as 2027 due to the long wait following Paramount’s renewal announcement.

Fortunately, those fears never came to fruition. Paramount+ officially renewed ‘Lioness’ on October 1, 2025, confirmed that production had commenced in Texas just five days later, and premiered season 3 on August 2, 2026, less than a year after that initial announcement.

In addition to impressive viewership numbers, ‘Lioness’ has been a significant topic of discussion in the streaming landscape. Preliminary data from Nielsen indicates that ‘Lioness’ season 3 was the second-most-watched streaming original series in the U.S. during the week of August 2 to 8. It also ranked as the number one trending streaming drama from August 2 to 4, generating 6.9 million views on social media during that period.

The show has also performed strongly internationally. On SkyShowtime in Europe, where ‘Lioness’ is available for streaming, season 3 has outperformed both previous seasons and is on track to be among the top five returning premieres in the platform’s history.

This success adds to the impressive track record of hits produced by Sheridan for Paramount+. ‘The Madison,’ a Western series starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, garnered 8 million views in its first 10 days back in March, while ‘Dutton Ranch,’ the ‘Yellowstone’ sequel, attracted 12.9 million views within a week of its May debut.

‘Lioness’ follows Joe McNamara, portrayed by Saldaña, and her team as they undertake high-stakes covert missions, drawing loose inspiration from a real Marine Corps program from the Iraq War era that utilized female soldiers for intelligence gathering. Season 3 features returning stars Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, and Laysla De Oliveira, along with newcomer Ian Bohen as Grady.

Sheridan serves as executive producer for the series alongside a talented team that includes David C. Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, and Ron Burkle, with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios overseeing production. With eight episodes in total and a finale scheduled for September 20, ‘Lioness’ still has plenty of opportunities to capitalize on this early momentum before the season concludes.

As Sheridan’s shows continue to break records, it becomes increasingly difficult to bet against whatever he has in store next.
