Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Reveals Rapunzel and Flynn Rider – Fans Are Excited About First Look
Disney’s live-action remake initiative has produced numerous nostalgic reboots, but few have generated as much excitement as its adaptation of ‘Tangled‘. Since the project was announced, fans have eagerly followed every casting update and production detail, eager for a glimpse of what this new version might entail.
Anticipation intensified when filming commenced overseas earlier this summer. With production taking place in Spain and largely kept under wraps, most of the information available to fans came from scattered set photos instead of official studio releases.
That changed at D23, where Disney finally offered fans their first substantial look at the film’s lead characters. The short teaser showcased Teagan Croft’s Rapunzel and Milo Manheim’s Flynn Rider together for the first time, igniting excitement among the Anaheim audience and confirming a theatrical release date of March 31, 2028.
The teaser opened with a now-iconic shot, following Rapunzel’s long blonde hair as it flowed down cobblestone streets before the camera revealed Croft’s face. This was a deliberate homage to the character’s most recognizable feature, designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia for longtime fans before introducing anything new.
Croft and Manheim also participated in a separate pre-recorded video message, greeting fans directly from the film’s production location in Spain while still in costume. This provided audiences with their clearest view yet of how the duo embodies Rapunzel and Flynn Rider on screen.
The film follows the same Brothers Grimm-inspired fairytale that shaped the original 2010 animated classic, depicting Rapunzel’s years spent locked in a tower before being unexpectedly freed by the fugitive thief Flynn Rider. Michael Gracey, known for directing ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Better Man’, is at the helm of this new adaptation, based on a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as the film’s antagonist, Mother Gothel, whose reveal during the same D23 panel reportedly elicited the loudest reaction from the audience. Diego Luna joins the cast as an original character created specifically for this adaptation, while Patrick and Hugo McPherson portray the villainous Stabbington brothers.
Disney went all out for the presentation, filling the Honda Center with floating lanterns as a direct homage to one of the animated film’s most beloved and visually stunning sequences. This immersive touch is part of Disney’s strategy during major D23 reveals, aiming to create a genuine event atmosphere rather than just another trailer drop.
Filming has been ongoing in Spain for several weeks, with location shoots occurring at sites like Burgos Cathedral for scenes set within the film’s kingdom. Set photos of both Croft and Manheim in costume had already begun circulating online ahead of the official D23 reveal.
Fan reactions on social media have been overwhelmingly positive since the footage was released, with many praising the casting choices and the film’s apparent dedication to honoring the visual style of the original animated movie. For a remake that has faced skepticism leading up to its release, the D23 reveal seems to have won over a significant portion of the fanbase.
With a confirmed release date and the leads finally showcased together, ‘Tangled’ has quickly become one of the most discussed projects in Disney’s upcoming live-action lineup.
