Marvel enthusiasts have been speculating for years about the fate of Paul Bettany’s synthezoid since ‘WandaVision’ left his storyline unresolved. As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ approaches its December release, the buzz surrounding Vision’s potential return has intensified. With a cast that features heroes from three different cinematic universes, fans are eagerly searching through the lineup for any sign of Vision.

Currently, the situation remains unclear. Bettany has not been officially confirmed as part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast, yet he has been teasing his possible return in a way that has kept fans excited for months.

The character’s demise in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was followed by a peculiar resurrection in ‘WandaVision,’ where Vision was reformed as a blank white version of himself, devoid of any memories of Wanda Maximoff. The 2021 Disney Plus series concluded with Vision being resurrected twice: first within Wanda’s grief-driven Hex and then as a real version of himself, thanks to the Scarlet Witch. This unresolved conclusion is precisely why fans are so eager for updates.

Although Bettany has not been officially listed as a cast member of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ many outlets and fans speculate that if he does return, it may be saved for a later reveal. However, the actor has been careful not to dismiss any possibilities entirely, and his comments have only fueled the speculation further.

In a conversation with a British publication late last year, Bettany mentioned having some Avengers responsibilities lined up for the following year, humorously noting that he wasn’t turning down major film directors to pursue Marvel projects. This remark alone was enough to ignite fan theories.

At the time of that interview, Bettany had not been announced as part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast, even though the film had completed principal photography. With the Russo brothers also set to direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ many assumed that Bettany’s comments were hinting at that later project instead.

Recently, during a popular entertainment podcast, the host directly asked Bettany if Vision would appear in either ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ The actor provided a somewhat vague response, expressing optimism while acknowledging that Marvel’s plans can change at any moment. As of that discussion, Vision had not been officially confirmed for either upcoming film.

One factor that keeps hope alive for fans is the timing of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ reshoots. Reports indicate that the film is currently undergoing additional filming, suggesting that Marvel could still incorporate Vision or other members of the Maximoff family into the final cut, even after the main shoot has wrapped. Such last-minute additions are not uncommon for a Marvel blockbuster of this magnitude.

Marvel Studios has a history of keeping secrets close to the vest before major announcements. Over two dozen actors have already been officially confirmed for the film, and Kevin Feige himself hinted that more surprises are still to come, even after the record-breaking cast announcement livestream. That livestream became a significant cultural event.

With a lineup that includes Avengers regulars, the Fantastic Four, and a wave of original ‘X-Men’ stars, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be one of the most impressive superhero films ever assembled.

Regardless of what transpires on screen, fans won’t have to wait long to see the character again. Vision is set to return in the Disney Plus series ‘VisionQuest,’ which was teased during a Disney presentation and is scheduled to premiere on October 14, 2026, just two months before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters. This series marks the third and final chapter in what has become a ‘WandaVision’ trilogy for the character.

This timing has sparked numerous fan theories about ‘VisionQuest’ potentially setting the stage for a surprise appearance in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Some fans speculate that the show could lead directly into the December film, although nothing has been confirmed. What is evident is that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ already boasts a massive cast drawn from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, and it’s likely that fans still do not know all the characters who will ultimately appear.

For now, Bettany’s comments remain the closest hint Marvel fans have. Whether Vision makes his return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ this December or waits for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027, one thing is certain: the character’s journey is far from over. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to release on December 18, 2026, and ‘Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027, there is still ample opportunity for Marvel to surprise its audience.

Which film do you think will finally bring Vision back into the fold? Would you prefer to see him reunite with Wanda’s legacy in ‘Doomsday’ or save that emotional reunion for the larger conflict in ‘Secret Wars’?
