Is Kit Connor in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’? The Truth About His Marvel Role
Marvel enthusiasts are abuzz with the news of Kit Connor’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there’s been some mix-up regarding his role. To clarify, Kit Connor is not part of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Instead, Connor has been cast as the new Cyclops in the upcoming standalone ‘X-Men’ reboot, which is a separate project from the ensemble film set to hit theaters this December.
The confusion arises from the timing of the announcements. Reports about Connor’s casting as Cyclops, whose real name is Scott Summers, coincided with the buzz surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
His casting was officially confirmed at Marvel’s D23 X-Men reveal, where he appeared alongside Sadie Sink, Samara Weaving, and the rest of the new cast for the film scheduled for release on May 5, 2028. This announcement solidified what was previously just speculation.
If his deal is finalized, Connor will join Samara Weaving, who has been cast as the villain-turned-hero Emma Frost, with Jake Schreier, known for directing ‘Thunderbolts’, at the helm of the new film. This marks the first standalone X-Men movie since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019.
The mix-up regarding Connor and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is understandable. Cyclops is indeed making an appearance in the Marvel movie universe this year, but not through Connor.
James Marsden, who portrayed Cyclops in the original Fox trilogy, will reprise his role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is set to release on December 18. This film serves as a farewell to the Fox era mutants, meaning there will be a Cyclops in ‘Doomsday’, but it won’t be Connor.
Marsden will share the screen with other legacy X-Men actors, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto. Rebecca Romijn will also return as Mystique. The convergence of these familiar mutant faces naturally fuels speculation about potential appearances from other characters.
The narrative suggests that Marsden’s older Cyclops will take his leave in ‘Doomsday’, while Connor’s new version is poised to take over the mantle. This passing of the torch will unfold across two distinct films rather than a shared appearance.
Connor’s ascent to a leading role in a franchise has been a gradual journey, showcasing a mix of indie projects and mainstream visibility. A London native, he began acting as a child, with early roles in ‘Get Santa’ and ‘Mr. Holmes’, and voiced Pantalaimon in HBO’s ‘His Dark Materials’. He also portrayed the teenage Elton John in ‘Rocketman’.
His breakout role came through streaming, where he gained recognition as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’, a performance that earned him the inaugural Children’s and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performance, along with a nomination for the show’s third season.
Following this success, Connor continued to build his resume, starring alongside Rachel Zegler in Broadway’s ‘Romeo + Juliet’ before being cast in the A24 war film ‘Warfare’ directed by Alex Garland, indicating a shift towards more mature material just before Marvel approached him.
The new lineup hints at Marvel’s intention to create a lasting franchise. The casting choices suggest a team designed to evolve over a decade, featuring a 22-year-old Connor as Cyclops, a 34-year-old Weaving as Emma Frost, and a 40-year-old Professor X.
Interestingly, no Wolverine has been announced for the reboot, and Hugh Jackman’s appearance at the D23 event has led some to speculate that he may not return for this new iteration. This decision to appoint a young, untested lead without the familiar presence of Wolverine is a significant choice for a franchise historically centered around Cyclops being overshadowed by Wolverine.

Production is already underway, with Schreier set to direct and cameras expected to roll next year. The new ‘X-Men’ film is currently slated for release on May 5, 2028, giving fans ample time to speculate about the rest of the cast before Connor steps into the role of Scott Summers.
While ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will indeed feature a Cyclops this December, thanks to James Marsden’s return, Kit Connor’s portrayal belongs to a different film that is still years away. With one Cyclops concluding an era and another ready to begin a new one, how do you think Marvel should manage the transition between Marsden and Connor on screen?
