Original Meg Voice Actress Names Zendaya as Casting Wish for Disney’s ‘Hercules’ Remake
Disney has been diligently working through its animated classics for live-action adaptations, and ‘Hercules’ has emerged as one of the most eagerly awaited titles still in the pipeline. Announced back in 2022 with Joe and Anthony Russo as producers and Guy Ritchie directing, the remake has sparked a wave of fan-casting discussions over the years, despite the absence of an official cast announcement.
This weekend, the speculation gained significant traction when the original voice of one of the film’s iconic characters shared her thoughts. Susan Egan, who voiced Megara in the beloved 1997 animated film, made an appearance on the D23 red carpet and revealed her top choice for the role that fans have been buzzing about online.
In an interview with Deadline at D23, Egan expressed her desire for Zendaya to take on the role of Meg, with Tom Holland as Hercules. “I mean, I’ve been subtly saying Zendaya, but now I’m just gonna say it,” Egan stated. “And probably, Tom and Zendaya, who I have never met, are filing for the restraining order right now. But honestly, I don’t even care. I feel like the world needs it.”
Egan emphasized that her endorsement goes beyond the couple’s popularity. She commended Zendaya’s grounded presence and the strength she has demonstrated throughout her career since her teenage years, describing her as statuesque with an incredible voice and the perfect edge for the character.
The on-screen chemistry between Holland and Zendaya is already well-established, having collaborated in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ and this year’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ Their existing partnership, combined with Zendaya’s musical background from her Disney Channel days and her role in ‘The Greatest Showman,’ has made her a popular fan-casting choice for Meg long before Egan’s recent comments.

This isn’t the first time Egan has mentioned Zendaya for the role. In a previous discussion with Entertainment Tonight, Egan highlighted that casting Meg requires more than just musical talent, stressing the character’s sarcasm and independence as crucial traits for the eventual actress. She specifically pointed to Zendaya’s performance in ‘Challengers’ as proof that she possesses the edge and captivating quality needed for the character, alongside her singing experience from her Disney Channel days and in ‘The Greatest Showman.’
Despite the growing excitement among fans, Disney has yet to announce any official casting for ‘Hercules’ at this time. The remake is still in development under the Russo brothers’ AGBO banner, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct and the project reportedly taking a music-driven approach inspired by contemporary platforms like TikTok.
With Holland and Zendaya’s real-life relationship and shared box office success continuing to fuel speculation, Egan’s public endorsement provides the fan-casting campaign with a credible boost, even in the absence of confirmation from the studio.
