Warner Bros. has transformed the countdown to ‘Dune: Part Three’ into a significant event, making ticket presales for major blockbusters more exciting than ever. With exclusive early screenings and staggered ticket releases, the marketing campaign for Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy finale has been in full swing for months.

This strategy is particularly important as ‘Dune: Part Three’ is set to premiere on December 18, coinciding with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ leading to a highly anticipated box office face-off that fans are calling “Dunesday.”

In preparation for this clash, Warner Bros. is launching its most ambitious presale initiative yet. A new batch of tickets will be available, including limited early IMAX screenings, a third round of IMAX presales, and premium large format tickets for Dolby and other formats, all linked to the opening weekend and beyond.

Early access begins ahead of the official release, with limited fan screenings in IMAX 70mm scheduled for December 14 at just six confirmed theaters. This offering will expand on December 15 when additional digital IMAX locations are added for more early fan screenings.

Following these early showings, the rollout will follow a more conventional schedule, with Thursday preview screenings set for December 17, leading up to the nationwide release on December 18. Tickets for all premium large format screenings starting from those Thursday previews will also be available in this presale wave, while standard theater tickets are expected to be released closer to the film’s debut.

This isn’t the first time that the demand for IMAX 70mm tickets for ‘Dune: Part Three’ has made headlines. Back in April, an initial batch of IMAX 70mm tickets for the opening weekend was released across nineteen global locations and sold out almost instantly in both North America and London.

Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. President of Global Distribution, noted that the early sellout reflects the immense anticipation surrounding the film. “This incredible result is proof that the fans’ anticipation to experience ‘Dune: Part Three’ as it was meant to be — on the biggest, boldest screens possible — is at a fever pitch,” Goldstein said, according to Deadline.

Much of this excitement stems from the film’s production. Unlike its predecessors, ‘Dune: Part Three’ was partially filmed using IMAX film cameras, making it only the second film after Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ to utilize the latest, lighter camera technology. This choice has led to speculation that the film could be shown in IMAX’s full 1.43:1 aspect ratio, offering an experience akin to Nolan’s large-format films.

Adding to the urgency, ‘Dune: Part Three’ has secured a three-week IMAX exclusivity window globally, allowing it to dominate the format even as it competes with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on the same release date. This format lockout provides a significant advantage as the film heads into what is expected to be one of the year’s most significant box office showdowns.

Directed by Villeneuve and co-written with Brian K. Vaughan, ‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune Messiah,’ continuing the saga roughly two decades after Paul Atreides took control of the Imperium. The film features returning stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, and Rebecca Ferguson, alongside newcomers Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson, and Javier Bardem.

With early screenings confirmed, presales expanding across various formats, and a box office clash already making waves, ‘Dune: Part Three’ is poised to become one of the most closely monitored theatrical releases of the year.
