‘Dune: Part Three’ Presale Demand Surges Again With Fans Facing Long AMC Queues
Ticket presales for major blockbusters typically lack genuine suspense, but Warner Bros. has transformed the rollout of ‘Dune: Part Three’ into a captivating event. Each new ticket release has sparked its own wave of frenzied demand, and this latest round is no different.
This trend began earlier this year when the film’s initial batch of IMAX 70mm tickets sold out almost immediately at select global locations. Since then, every new presale window has drawn intense reactions from fans eager to secure seats for Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy-closing chapter months before its release.
The current presale wave has proven to be no exception. Reports indicate that fans trying to buy tickets for premium IMAX screenings at AMC Theatres in the U.S. faced wait times of nearly an hour, with virtual queue systems showing estimated waits of up to 54 minutes just to access the ticketing site.
This level of demand marks the third consecutive presale round to elicit such an overwhelming response. Fans entering AMC’s queue were advised to keep their browser windows open to maintain their place in line, with only a 20-minute window to complete a purchase once their turn arrived.
The surge in demand aligns with the film’s staggered ticket release strategy. Warner Bros. has been rolling out access in phases, starting with limited fan screenings in IMAX 70mm on December 14, followed by digital IMAX locations on December 15, and traditional Thursday previews on December 17 ahead of the film’s wide release on December 18.
The December 18 release date is particularly significant as it coincides with the opening of Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ setting the stage for a closely watched box office showdown, which fans have dubbed “Dunesday.”
Much of the excitement driving these presale surges can be attributed to the film’s production choices. ‘Dune: Part Three’ was partially filmed using IMAX film cameras, following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ as only the second production to utilize the format’s newer, lighter camera technology, raising speculation about the immersive quality of the theatrical experience.
Directed by Villeneuve and co-written with Brian K. Vaughan, ‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune Messiah,’ continuing the journey of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he navigates a fractured empire seventeen years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two.’ The film reunites Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy, while introducing Robert Pattinson and Isaach de Bankolé to the cast.
Behind the scenes, the production brings back much of the trilogy’s award-winning creative team, including cinematographer Linus Sandgren, editor Joe Walker, and composer Hans Zimmer, all contributing to what Villeneuve describes as the most personal and action-packed chapter of the three films.
Principal photography concluded in November 2025 after filming in Budapest and Abu Dhabi, providing the production with nearly a full year for post-production and marketing ahead of release. This extended timeline appears to be paying off, as each new ticket wave generates the kind of grassroots urgency that studios typically hope for but rarely achieve consistently.
With three rounds of presales now completed and December still months away, ‘Dune: Part Three’ shows no signs of losing momentum as it approaches its climactic release weekend. Whether this enthusiasm translates into record-breaking opening numbers against ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ remains to be seen, but the ticketing frenzy alone indicates that audiences are treating this release as a genuine event.
