Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated return to the realm of Danny Ocean has been quietly evolving for years, navigating through various directors and cast announcements before finally settling on its current lineup. With production now in full swing across multiple European locations, new set photos are offering fans their clearest look yet at how the film is shaping up.

The untitled prequel has garnered attention since its announcement in 2022, promising a story set in the early 1960s that delves into the origins of Danny Ocean’s parents against the glamorous backdrop of the heist world. After a series of cast changes and a directorial shift, filming commenced this summer with genuine momentum.

This week, that momentum was evident as Bradley Cooper and Monica Barbaro were spotted filming together for the first time on the Paris set. Cooper, who also serves as the film’s writer and director, was seen wearing a headset while directing a scene, while Barbaro was nearby, getting her hair adjusted by a crew member and dressed in a striking blue-and-white costume.

Earlier this year, Cooper took on his multi-faceted role as writer, director, and star after original director Lee Isaac Chung amicably exited due to creative differences. He now leads the film alongside Margot Robbie, who has been attached since the project’s inception back in 2022, when her team first confirmed that she and director Jay Roach were developing an original 1960s-set ‘Ocean’s‘ story.

According to Wikipedia’s official production summary, the film revolves around a heist set in 1962 Monte Carlo, with Cooper and Robbie reportedly portraying the parents of characters who eventually become part of the original ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ universe. Unlike the previous trilogy led by George Clooney and directed by Steven Soderbergh, this new film will not feature Clooney or any of the original heist crew, instead charting a completely separate story set decades earlier.

Wagner Moura joins the cast as the film’s antagonist, rounding out a trio of leads alongside Cooper and Robbie. The ensemble has continued to grow in recent months, adding Josh Gad, Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Omar Sy, Lauren Ridloff, and Jack Holden to the lineup, creating one of the most eclectic casts of any major studio release on the horizon.

Principal photography began in Paris in July, with the shoot expected to continue in Nice and Monaco between August 24 and October 15, according to Wikipedia’s production timeline. This schedule aligns closely with the franchise’s long-standing reputation for utilizing glamorous, high-profile locations as part of its visual identity, a hallmark the original trilogy embraced across its European and American settings.

Barbaro, who received an Oscar nomination for her role as Joan Baez in ‘A Complete Unknown’ after gaining recognition in ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ was confirmed for the project back in June following reports from Deadline. Her casting came shortly after Cooper officially signed on to direct, solidifying the project’s current creative direction following its earlier development challenges under Chung.

As filming progresses through some of Europe’s most iconic cities, and with such a talented cast coming together on screen for the first time, anticipation continues to build for how Cooper’s vision will redefine the franchise’s origins. The untitled ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel is currently slated for release on June 25, 2027, giving fans ample time to speculate about how this new narrative will connect to the world audiences first fell in love with over two decades ago.
