First Official Bathhouse Photo of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Released
Marvel’s surprise crossovers have always kept fans eagerly analyzing every detail of new releases, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ delivered a moment that few anticipated. The film premiered just over a year after ‘Thunderbolts*,’ with its narrative unfolding between the conclusion of that movie and its post-credits scene.
The cameo features Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, who appears when Peter Parker seeks her assistance in investigating a villain capable of body-jumping and mind control, wreaking havoc in New York. Since her introduction in 2021’s ‘Black Widow,’ Yelena has become one of the MCU’s most cherished characters, with appearances in ‘Hawkeye,’ ‘Thunderbolts*,’ ‘What If?,’ and ‘Marvel Zombies.’
Now, weeks post-release, Marvel Studios has unveiled the first official image from that cameo, providing fans with their clearest glimpse of the scene that generated buzz since the film’s opening weekend. The new image was shared by Company 3 senior colorist Tom Poole on Instagram, marking the first official release from anyone associated with the film’s production.

The image depicts Spider-Man, fully suited and masked, framed in a bathhouse doorway while holding a towel, with Yelena’s head visible just above the steaming blue water. This setting aligns with the on-screen action, where Yelena’s “office” is revealed to be a New York City bathhouse, where she agrees to assist Peter only if he joins her in the water.
This arrangement leads to one of the film’s comedic highlights, as Peter changes into his underwear while stubbornly keeping his Spider-Man mask on, much to Yelena’s amusement. She insists he needs to undress to ensure he hasn’t been “bugged,” quipping that he must be “a pretty lonely spider” given his guarded demeanor even in her presence.
Although Peter hopes Yelena’s experience as a trained Black Widow assassin might provide insight into the villain he’s pursuing, she ultimately brushes off his concerns as “small potatoes” compared to the larger threats the New Avengers are currently facing. Despite this dismissal, the scene still offers Peter a moment of genuine connection during an otherwise isolating period in his journey.

Pugh has embraced the popularity of her cameo since the film’s debut, sharing fan art of the bathhouse scene on her Instagram Stories, set to Charli XCX’s “Wink Wink.” This repost helped clarify some of the exaggerated fan speculation regarding the scene’s risqué nature, confirming that both characters remained clothed beneath the water despite early rumors suggesting otherwise.
Beyond the fan service, Yelena’s brief appearance also hints at the franchise’s future. With both heroes based in New York, the scene subtly emphasizes the interconnectedness of Marvel’s street-level heroes, especially with Yelena confirmed to play a significant role in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
Looking ahead, if Yelena survives the events of ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ this new iteration of Black Widow could remain a staple of the MCU well into its next chapter, potentially alongside the studio’s upcoming 2028 ‘X-Men’ reboot. While Peter Parker’s involvement in ‘Doomsday’ remains uncertain, this bathhouse encounter suggests the New Avengers may already have an ally poised to join their ranks.
