Warner Bros. has been hinting at a prequel to the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ universe for years, ever since Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 heist comedy made George Clooney’s Danny Ocean a modern cinematic icon. The project has seen various directors and cast changes before finally taking shape, leaving fans curious about what a version of the story without Clooney might look like.

That question is beginning to be answered. Production has now shifted to the streets of Paris, where the untitled prequel is well into filming, showcasing its new leads in full 1960s attire, providing the public with a clearer glimpse of what Warner Bros. has been crafting behind the scenes.

Recently, Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie, and Monica Barbaro were seen filming in Paris, with the narrative focusing on the origins of Danny Ocean’s parents. The film is both written and directed by Cooper, who stars alongside Robbie, Wagner Moura, and Barbaro, serving as a prequel to the 2001 ‘Ocean’s Eleven.’ Cooper took over writing and directing duties after Lee Isaac Chung exited the project earlier this year.

The plot revolves around a heist that predates everything audiences know about the Ocean family. Set in 1962 Monte Carlo, it follows Danny Ocean’s parents as they execute an elaborate heist connected to the Monaco Grand Prix, essentially reframing Danny not as the franchise’s original mastermind but as the product of two earlier ones.

Robbie confirmed these plot details months ago during a sizzle reel at Warner Bros.’ 2026 CinemaCon presentation, stating, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows, his parents,” a line first reported by Variety. She added that audiences would see the duo “in their prime,” executing their signature con long before their son ever entered a casino.

The cast for this 1962 heist is filled with familiar faces. In addition to Cooper and Robbie, the ensemble includes Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Jack Holden, Lauren Ridloff, Omar Sy, Wagner Moura, and Josh Gad, with Moura reportedly portraying the film’s main antagonist. Monica Barbaro, fresh off her Oscar-nominated performance in ‘A Complete Unknown,’ completes the leading trio.

The Paris shoot has already provided fans with plenty of visual excitement. Robbie has been photographed in chic black-and-white outfits that evoke vintage Audrey Hepburn glamour, featuring a white shift dress, pointy-toe pumps, and a wide-brimmed hat, while Barbaro has donned period-appropriate suits that align with the film’s early-1960s setting.

Production reportedly commenced in Paris this summer and is expected to transition to Nice and Monaco in the coming months as filming continues to capture the film’s Monaco Grand Prix centerpiece. Warner Bros. has slated the film for release on June 25, 2027, meaning fans will have to wait a while to see if Danny Ocean’s parents can uphold the con-artist legacy he eventually established for himself.
