‘The Odyssey’ Home Release Date Set for November 17
Christopher Nolan has built his career on the belief that movies are best experienced on the largest screens possible. This philosophy has made his films some of the most enduring theatrical experiences in modern Hollywood, and it paid off again this summer as his latest epic dominated box office charts for weeks following its release.
However, fans eager to watch Nolan’s interpretation of Homer’s classic from the comfort of their homes have had to be patient. True to his style, the director’s preference for theaters over rapid digital releases has left audiences guessing about when the film might finally be available for home viewing.
According to reports, Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is set to release digitally on November 17, which is more than 120 days after its theatrical debut. This information comes from a report from ScreenRant, which noted that Blu-ray.com has listed the Blu-ray and digital release date for ‘The Odyssey’ as November 17, 2026, exactly four months after its July 17 theatrical release.
This timeline closely mirrors how Nolan handled the home release of his previous film. ‘Oppenheimer’ followed a similar pattern in 2023, arriving on both digital and Blu-ray on the same day, 123 days after its July 21 theatrical opening. Industry experts had anticipated that ‘The Odyssey’ would follow this same four-month release window, given Nolan’s consistent focus on theatrical releases.
‘The Odyssey’ has certainly earned its extended theatrical run. The film has become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, trailing only ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ and has recently surpassed ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s’ $1.338 billion to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with its current total at $1.35 billion worldwide.
As of now, Universal has not officially confirmed the November release date. Observers note that the studio followed a similar pattern with ‘Oppenheimer,’ waiting until about a month prior to make formal announcements. If they stick to this approach, we can expect an official confirmation from Universal around mid-October.

Fans looking to stream the film on a subscription service will likely need to wait even longer. Peacock is expected to be the eventual streaming home for ‘The Odyssey,’ but it’s projected that the film won’t be available until around February 2027, well after its digital purchase and rental window opens.
Nolan’s commitment to theatrical exclusivity is not new. He has publicly expressed that the communal experience of moviegoing offers something fundamentally different from watching at home. This stance has become a hallmark of his directing style, even if it means asking fans to wait months longer than they would for a typical studio blockbuster.
With ‘The Odyssey’ continuing its impressive box office run and a digital release date now seemingly set for November 17, audiences who have been waiting for a home viewing option finally have a date to mark on their calendars, even if Universal has yet to make it official.
