Franchise anniversaries often lead to significant announcements in anime, and few properties are as impactful as ‘One Piece.’ With Eiichiro Oda’s pirate saga nearing multiple milestone anniversaries, fans have been eagerly speculating about how the franchise would commemorate these occasions.

Those speculations were finally addressed during the ONE PIECE DAY ’26 livestream event, where Toei Animation unveiled two major announcements that sent fans into a frenzy. This annual event has become a staple for significant franchise updates, but this year’s revelations were particularly noteworthy.

During the broadcast, two brand-new anime films were confirmed: ‘One Piece Film: God Valley,’ scheduled for release in summer 2027, and a second, more enigmatic project titled ‘One Piece Film: Baad,’ set for 2029. The timing of these announcements is significant, coinciding with the manga’s 30th anniversary in 2027 and the anime’s own 30th anniversary in 2029.

‘God Valley’ will be the franchise’s first new theatrical film since 2022’s ‘One Piece Film: Red,’ which achieved record-breaking success, grossing over 2.25 billion yen and attracting 1.57 million attendees during its opening weekend in Japan. This box office triumph has evidently instilled confidence in Toei to return to theaters, this time exploring one of the story’s most significant and long-anticipated backstory arcs.

The God Valley Incident has been a prominent part of ‘One Piece’ lore for years, referenced frequently throughout the manga without being fully depicted. This pivotal event occurred 38 years prior to the current storyline, featuring a legendary battle between the Rocks Pirates and a coalition of the Roger Pirates, the Marines, and the enigmatic World Nobles.

This confrontation notably showcased a rare alliance between Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp as they united against Rocks D. Xebec, a moment that has attained almost mythic status among longtime readers, given the central roles both Roger and Garp play in the series’ broader mythology. Oda had previously hinted at this project during Jump Festa 2026, suggesting it would cover something he believed fans would be particularly excited about, although he did not confirm any specifics at that time.

In contrast, ‘One Piece Film: Baad’ remains largely under wraps. Unlike ‘God Valley,’ which is directly tied to an established story arc, ‘Baad’ does not correspond to any known location, character, or event within the franchise, leaving fans to speculate about its potential references until more information is revealed.

These film announcements coincided with other significant updates from the same broadcast. The results of the franchise’s second worldwide character popularity poll were revealed, with Luffy once again taking the title of the most popular character in the series.

Additional casting news for the live-action Netflix adaptation was also shared, introducing actors who will portray Koza, Pell, Toto, and Chaka as the series moves toward its Alabasta arc in the upcoming third season. On the anime front, the flagship television series has entered its Elbaph arc as of April, with Toei confirming plans to limit annual episode output to a maximum of 26 episodes going forward.

With the manga’s chapter count continuing to rise past 1,190 and the anime delving deeper into one of its most anticipated arcs, these new film announcements indicate that ‘One Piece’ is poised to maintain its momentum as it approaches its landmark anniversaries. For a franchise that has already surpassed 600 million copies in print worldwide, introducing two new theatrical events over the coming years only emphasizes its ongoing dominance across manga, anime, and live-action adaptations alike.
