Next James Bond Rumors Suggest Casting Has Already Been Finalized
The search for Daniel Craig’s successor as James Bond has sparked relentless speculation in Hollywood. For years, every leaked screen test, casting director hire, and casual producer comment has ignited a flurry of theories regarding who will take on the iconic 007 role.
This weekend, speculation surged once more as social media buzzed with claims that the next James Bond has already been quietly cast, with an official announcement expected soon. However, these posts do not name any actor and lack confirmation from Amazon MGM Studios, the current rights holder of the franchise.
At this point, the rumor remains just that, with no major trade outlets confirming that casting has been completed. What is clear is that the search for the next Bond is in its most active phase, with producer Amy Pascal indicating that it is nearing a decisive final stage.
Pascal, who assumed creative control of the franchise alongside David Heyman in 2025 after Amazon MGM’s complete acquisition from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, stated that a formal casting announcement could realistically happen before the year’s end. “I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” Pascal told Deadline, noting that the production team has been careful, given how challenging it is to follow Craig.
According to previous reports, director Denis Villeneuve and the production team have informed a shortlist of actors about final screen tests scheduled for August. Casting director Nina Gold, known for her work on ‘Game of Thrones,’ has also been meeting with a broader range of actors beyond the initial shortlist, indicating that producers are open to a less established performer taking on the role.
This approach aligns with Bond’s history, as several past actors who portrayed 007 were relatively unknown before landing the part. Amazon MGM confirmed in May that the formal casting process had commenced but did not comment on individual names as the search progressed.
Despite the official silence, numerous names have circulated in the meantime. Jack Lowden, recognized for his role as River Cartwright on Apple TV’s ‘Slow Horses,’ has emerged as a popular candidate. Author Richard Osman suggested that Lowden was being “strongly considered” for the role, a claim that gained traction in mid-August.
Lowden is not the only name that has been frequently mentioned throughout this process. Callum Turner has been touted as a bookies’ favorite at various times, and actors like Aaron Pierre have also been linked to the role, although it’s unclear if any of these candidates have reached the franchise’s most advanced audition stages.
The intense interest in this search highlights the significance of this moment for the franchise. ‘Bond 26′ will be the first film developed entirely under Amazon MGM’s creative control, marking a structural shift after decades under Eon Productions’ more traditional approach to the series.
Villeneuve is set to direct, with Steven Knight, creator of ‘Peaky Blinders,’ writing the screenplay, indicating a creative team eager to bring a fresh perspective to the character. The stakes are particularly high following the events of ‘No Time to Die,’ which left Bond’s on-screen death as a challenge for producers to reintroduce the character without repeating past narratives.
For now, fans eager for immediate confirmation of a new 007 will need to be patient. With auditions reportedly still ongoing and no official word from Amazon MGM, this weekend’s casting rumors remain unverified, but they clearly reflect the growing anticipation as the franchise approaches the moment of naming its next leading man.
