Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Stunt Double Sparks Wanda’s MCU Return Rumors for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Wanda Maximoff’s fate has been one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most persistent mysteries since ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ left her buried beneath a collapsing mountain in 2022. The absence of a body on screen has kept fan theories about a potential Scarlet Witch return alive for years.
The intrigue only grew when Elizabeth Olsen was not included in the official cast announcement for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ back in March 2025. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation, especially as the film enters a new round of reshoots ahead of its December release, with rumors suggesting that Wanda could still make an appearance in some capacity.
This speculation intensified this week when Jennifer White, Olsen’s longtime movement coach and stunt double, shared a set of throwback photos featuring the actress on Instagram. The image, labeled “2014!”, captures the two together from years spent working on the character, and the timing has fans believing it’s more than just a nostalgic post.

The post coincided with reports that cast and crew are still filming additional scenes for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ahead of its December 18 release date. According to entertainment scooper MyTimeToShineHello, White reportedly filmed something recently while donning an outfit reminiscent of Wanda’s costume from ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ further fueling speculation that Scarlet Witch could be involved in the additional photography.
This report has been corroborated by insider Daniel Richtman, who also mentioned that production on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is expected to commence at the end of September. Together, these details have many fans convinced that sidelining a character as powerful as Wanda wouldn’t make sense for a story centered around multiversal stakes.

The reaction to White’s post was swift and enthusiastic. One fan commented, “Screaming crying throwing up welcome back motherrrrrrr,” while another simply stated, “WE ARE SO BACK.” Others expressed cautious optimism, referencing Hawkeye’s warning in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ not to get anyone’s hopes up too soon.
Despite the excitement, Olsen has been quite clear about not being part of ‘Doomsday’ as filming began. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen explained that she has become intentional about selecting projects outside of Marvel that align with her artistic vision, emphasizing that stepping beyond the franchise’s massive shadow has become crucial in her role selection.
That said, many MCU actors have previously been coy about their involvement in projects, only to appear in the final film. It wouldn’t be the first time a cast list turned out to be intentionally incomplete, especially with a film as secretive as this one.
Marvel Studios has also fueled speculation in other ways, showcasing a costume for a character referred to as the “Latverian Witch” at San Diego Comic-Con this year. This design has led some fans to theorize that Doctor Doom could be manipulating a variant of Wanda to enhance his own power within the film’s multiversal conflict.
If this theory holds, it would provide Wanda with a compelling route back into the narrative without requiring Marvel to undo the emotional weight of her apparent sacrifice. A version of the character under Doom’s control could set the stage for a redemption arc in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ giving her unfinished journey a fitting conclusion.
Whether White’s nostalgic post leads to anything substantial for Wanda’s future remains uncertain, but it’s evident that the timing has reignited a discussion that Marvel fans have never truly let go of.
