‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has generated excitement for months, marking one of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious crossover events since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ With a sprawling cast already in place, the film aims to reignite the interconnected magic that characterized the franchise’s early years.

This sense of connection has been missing for much of Phase 4 through 6, as characters have largely remained isolated within their respective corners of the MCU. Marvel Studios seems eager to rectify this with ‘Doomsday,’ and recent reports indicate that the film’s additional photography is crucial to achieving this goal.

Insider Daniel Richtman has revealed that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently undergoing further filming, with numerous cameos being added during this stage of production. This additional footage continues a trend that has defined the film’s post-wrap process, as Marvel shapes the narrative well after principal photography has concluded.

Principal photography for ‘Doomsday’ took place from late April to mid-September 2025, after which The Hollywood Reporter noted that substantial reshoots were planned. Writers Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron have reportedly been refining the script throughout this extended process, allowing for adjustments even after the main shoot wrapped.

David Harbour, who portrays Red Guardian, has confirmed his return to London for additional filming. Other reports suggest that Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Elizabeth Olsen may also participate in some capacity. Richtman specifically mentioned that much of this additional photography focuses on new character-driven scenes, aimed at providing the ensemble with more opportunities for genuine interaction rather than isolated appearances.

This strategy is logical, considering the film is expected to unite characters who have had limited interactions thus far. ‘Doomsday’ will reportedly showcase Sam Wilson’s new Avengers lineup in action as a cohesive unit, while the recently formed New Avengers team, previously known as the Thunderbolts, has only appeared together in one prior film.

Additional reports have hinted at a wide array of potential cameo additions during this filming phase, with names like Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange all being mentioned as possibilities. While none of these appearances have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, the sheer volume of names suggests the film’s expansive scope.

The confirmed cast includes major stars such as Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, among many others from various corners of the MCU. Adding a slew of surprise cameos to this already impressive roster would elevate the film’s scale into uncharted territory for the franchise.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently slated for a December 18 release, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ expected to follow about a year later. As additional photography continues, more cameo rumors are likely to emerge in the months leading up to the film’s premiere.
