‘Manifest’ has experienced a remarkable journey in television, transitioning from an NBC cancellation to a successful revival on Netflix, thanks to its immense popularity. This resurgence allowed the mystery drama to conclude with a fourth and final season, addressing long-standing questions surrounding Montego Air Flight 828 and its passengers.

Since the finale, fans have been speculating about the potential expansion of the universe created by Jeff Rake. Rumors of a spinoff circulated, giving dedicated viewers hope that Netflix would continue to explore this captivating world.

Now, that speculation has turned into reality. Netflix has officially greenlit ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery,’ a new series set within the ‘Manifest’ universe, focusing on a mysterious plane crash-landing in Denver.

According to the official logline, the passengers of the crashed plane arrive with no recollection of their identities or origins. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent join forces with these new arrivals to avert an impending catastrophe, ultimately realizing they are part of the very enigma they are trying to unravel.

The original creative team is back for this project, with Jeff Rake returning as creator and showrunner, alongside former ‘Manifest’ co-executive producers Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who are now co-creators and co-showrunners. Kevin Hamedani will contribute to the writing staff, while Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions, and Jacqueline Levine will serve as executive producers, with Warner Bros. Television once again backing the project.

Rake has expressed how unexpected this new chapter feels, describing the chance to revisit this universe as something he never anticipated when the original concept was first developed. He praised Easley and Putney as trusted collaborators for over a decade, highlighting their partnership on ‘Arrivals’ as a natural choice given their significant contributions to the original series.

Netflix strategically chose this announcement date. ‘Manifest’ revolves around the disappearance of Montego Air Flight 828, and the spinoff was confirmed on August 28, a date fans quickly linked to the flight number. This date also marks exactly five years since Netflix first revealed its revival of the original series for its concluding season.

This numerical Easter egg aligns perfectly with the franchise’s storytelling style, where recurring numbers and hidden meanings have always been integral to the mystery. The new title format also mirrors the branding approach of another Netflix franchise, following the naming convention used for ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ and ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.’

Since its addition to Netflix, the original ‘Manifest’ series has garnered over 130 million views across its four seasons, with Season 4 alone spending nine weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list and achieving the number one spot in more than 90 countries. Given these impressive statistics, it’s clear why Netflix was eager to keep the franchise alive in some form.

With a new cast of characters and an intriguing mystery ahead, ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery’ is set to introduce the franchise to a new generation of viewers while still rewarding longtime fans with its familiar creative essence.
