‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Reveals Unique Popcorn Bucket Crafted From Real Anvil
Few films in recent memory have experienced a journey to theaters as dramatic as ‘Coyote vs. Acme.’ After being shelved for years due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s tax write-off strategy in 2023, the completed movie faced significant public backlash. Fans, filmmakers, and even politicians argued that a finished film deserved a chance to reach an audience.
Eventually, that pressure bore fruit when Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film for wide distribution, scheduling its theatrical release for August 28. This comedy merges live-action with classic Looney Tunes animation, following Wile E. Coyote as he hires a struggling lawyer, portrayed by Will Forte, to sue the Acme Corporation for years of faulty, injury-inducing products.
As the release day arrives, the film’s marketing team has unveiled an unexpected surprise. A newly revealed popcorn bucket transforms the movie’s signature anvil imagery into a genuine collector’s item, crafted from an actual anvil instead of the typical molded plastic or cardboard theater merchandise.
The anvil has long served as a visual shorthand for Wile E. Coyote’s misfortunes since the earliest Looney Tunes cartoons, making it a fitting centerpiece for the film’s promotional campaign. This particular item stands out from the standard merchandise revealed earlier this year at CinemaCon, which included a set of four buckets and cups featuring a black anvil hanging from a chain above the film’s logo, along with the names of stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, and John Cena.
Unlike those mass-produced items, this new bucket is a unique one-of-a-kind piece, meaning only a single version exists. Filled to the brim with popcorn and photographed under a glowing “Popcorn” sign reminiscent of classic movie theater concession stands, it has quickly become one of the most talked-about promotional items associated with the film’s release.
Directed by Dave Green, ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ features a screenplay by Samy Burch, based on a story she co-wrote with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater. The project draws inspiration from Ian Frazier’s satirical 1990 New Yorker article of the same name, which itself parodies the classic Looney Tunes universe.
Early reviews have provided a mixed yet largely positive outlook on the finished film. Critic Richard Crouse awarded it 3.5 out of 4 stars, praising its blend of live-action comedy with the anarchic spirit of the original cartoons. Other outlets have taken a more cautious stance on whether the character’s one-joke premise can sustain a full-length feature. However, many reviews have highlighted the novelty of merging a familiar cartoon world with a live-action legal comedy as one of the film’s greatest strengths.

Considering the long fight fans undertook to see this movie reach theaters, a one-of-a-kind piece of anvil-shaped merchandise feels like a fitting celebration for a release that once seemed impossible. Whether this unique bucket will end up in the hands of a lucky fan or remain purely promotional is yet to be determined, but it is already generating significant buzz online.
This reveal also aligns with a broader trend among theater chains and studios competing to create the most eye-catching physical merchandise tied to a film’s release. This practice has become almost as talked-about online as the movies themselves in recent years. For a film like ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ with its unusual path to release, such an attention-grabbing marketing moment feels especially well-deserved.
